About me

Many people come to therapy feeling anxious, overwhelmed, or unsure why they seem to struggle more than others. You might feel stuck in patterns you don’t fully understand or frustrated that certain experiences continue to affect you long after they’ve passed. Therapy is a space to gently explore these feelings, make sense of your experiences, and begin to develop a kinder, more compassionate relationship with yourself.

Perhaps you've felt like your emotional reactions are confusing or difficult to manage, as though your feelings don’t quite match what’s happening around you. At times, you might feel constantly on edge, find it hard to relax, or struggle with trust and closeness in relationships. Underneath this, there can be a deeper sense that something isn’t quite right, or that you’re not fully able to be yourself.

As we work together, we may explore how past experiences are connected to the way you feel and respond in the present. For those who wish to explore it, I can also offer breathing exercises and other grounding techniques, in order to help you to gain confidence with self-regulation when outside of the therapy room. These can help clients to stay focused in the present moment when memories or anxiety symptoms become overwhelming.

My approach at its core is person centred, meaning I offer a space where you can explore your experiences at your own pace, in a way that feels safe and manageable, whilst recognising you as the expert in your lived experiences. Alongside this I work as an integrative therapist, by using elements of different branches of therapy such as CBT and somatic (awareness of the link between the body and the mind) approaches, ensuring that my work with you is tailored to your specific needs. I work in a trauma-informed way, recognising that past experiences, whether clearly traumatic or more difficult to define, can shape how we feel, relate to others, and understand ourselves.

A central part of my work is supporting you to develop a more compassionate relationship with yourself. This includes making sense of your experiences and understanding your responses with empathy rather than judgement, so that you can begin to feel more connected to who you are, and rediscover a sense of yourself that feels lost or out of reach.

Therapy can feel like a big step, but it can also be the beginning of relating to yourself in a different way. If this resonates with you, you’re very welcome to get in touch to see whether working together feels like the right fit.

Training, qualifications & experience

My main area of expertise is working with survivors of sexual assault, both in childhood and adulthood. I have gained this experience through extensive training with the charities Rape Crisis and Choices. I also welcome clients with difficulties resulting from childhood adverse experiences, particularly depression, anxiety, and low self-esteem.

As someone with lived experience of LGBTQIA challenges as well as family members with neurodiversity, I am particularly keen to offer a safe and supportive space for clients who identify as such, as spaces can so often feel unsafe for members of these groups. However, I am eager to work with clients of all backgrounds.

I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP), with a level 4 qualification in Therapeutic Counselling.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
