About me

Hi, I'm Rachel, an Integrative counsellor whose passion is to empower people to live authentically without shame or fear. Being late diagnosed autistic I have a deep understanding of how everyday life can create difficulties whether you are autistic or not and the impact that can have on self esteem, identity and general worth. I conduct my sessions in my dedicated therapy room at my home premises but also offer online sessions if that is more convenient. Working with clients aged 13 years +.

Whether you are neurodiverse or not, my methods of working openly and honestly to ensure that communication is direct and concise ensures that the client is at the centre of all that we do.

There is no judgement, and I encourage clients to feel safe enough to be honest and vulnerable with me and themselves. With a relaxed setting that allows you to feel safe and free to be genuine. I only work to the clients agenda and needs and will never judge, dictate or advise how you should feel or be as every emotion your feel will be validated and worked through with respect and dignity. My intention is for every client to feel safe enough to be authentically themselves in session without fear of judgement or shame.

Specialising in Neurodiversity, Anxiety, Bereavement and overcoming difficult challenges whether that is relationships, self esteem or just feeling stuck in your life, It doesn't matter if it seems trivial to others, what matters is how it is impacting you.  I also promote development of self esteem and confidence so that you feel you have the strength and ability to take the skills you develop in therapy and apply them to other areas of your life. So whether you feel stuck in your situation or a loss of identity due to masking, I am here to support you.

I offer a free 20 mins initial meet to discuss your needs and for you to decide if I am the right therapist for you.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have worked within the mental health and wellbeing sector for over 10 years working with children from 8- 18 years working with issues such as identity, bullying, family breakdowns and exploring confidence and self esteem. This also provided opportunities for me to expand my skills and knowledge of working with Neurodiverse clients and adapting my counselling practice to ensure that all clients have the same opportunities to be supported through therapy. I also volunteer as a counsellor at my local hospice within stoke on Trent within the bereavement counselling service from children to adults.

Having qualified as an Integrative counsellor and a registered member of the BACP with focus on CBT, Transactional Analysis and person-centred theory, my interests have branched into Neurodiversity, Bereavement, Self-esteem and Identity as I believe that living authentically can improve mental health once we have broken down some of the expectations that have been put upon ourselves. Having been diagnosed autistic at the age of 36 years, I have a deep understanding of Neurodiversity and the impact that has on self-esteem, mental health and identity, especially the difficulty in navigating the neurotypical work. I also have 2 autistic children so the experience of being a parent who is supporting neurodiverse children can be debilitating and the impact on our mental health can be all consuming.

Even though Neurodiversity is my specialism I believe that my direct, concise and honest counselling style is powerful within therapy, as my intention is to always promote and be authentic and genuine without judgement and from experience it has brought a refreshing take on how therapy works and I intentional break down the stigmas of therapy and focus on the client’s needs and agendas rather than the social norms and expectations of society.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

Accredited register membership

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
