About me
Hello, I'm Rachel and I run a private practice in East Lothian, offering both in person and remote counselling.
Whether you're feeling lost, hopeless, or overwhelmed, I can help you to move confidently towards change, feel more hopeful and more authentically you.
I've supported people struggling with issues such as depression, anxiety, bereavement and low self-esteem, and people impacted by a sudden change such as ill-health, bereavement, or relationship breakdown.
Counselling offers a unique space to build a connection with someone based on compassion and empathy. It's a space for you to be you. In our sessions together, I will meet you where you are and work with what you bring to each session. I will sit with you within the emotions you’re feeling and help you to make sense of your thoughts.
Training, qualifications & experience
I am trained in both the person-centred and psychodynamic approaches. I work within the framework of the person-centred conditions, creating a non-judgmental environment and offering empathy and compassion to my clients. This creates the foundation of our work, as this setting nurtures trust, growth, and change. I use psychodynamic theory to help explore thought patterns, feelings, and the relational experiences of clients. I've supported people experiencing issues such as depression, anxiety, bereavement and low self-esteem, and people impacted by a sudden change such as ill-health, bereavement, and relationship breakdown.
I also, where appropriate, integrate psychoeducation into my practice as I strongly believe that having more understanding of what is happening in your brain and body when you're feeling anxious or stressed can make the feelings a bit more manageable.
