About me
Hello, I’m Rachael, a qualified person-centred counsellor and Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP).
Through Rachael Emma Counselling, I offer face-to-face counselling from a private counselling room in Tamworth, Staffordshire, and online counselling throughout the UK. I work individually with adults, young people aged 13 and over, and student counsellors seeking personal counselling as part of their training.
Taking the first step towards counselling can feel daunting. You may be uncertain about what to say, whether your difficulties are “serious enough”, or whether counselling is right for you. Finding a counsellor with whom you feel safe, respected and comfortable is an important part of the process.
I provide a warm, confidential and non-judgemental space where you can talk openly, feel heard and explore what is happening at your own pace. Confidentiality and its safeguarding, safety and legal limits will always be explained clearly.
What Can I Support You With?
I have experience supporting adults and young people with concerns including:
- anxiety, stress and overwhelm, depression and low mood
- bereavement, grief and loss
- low confidence and low self-esteem
- relationship difficulties
- trauma and difficult life experiences
- the emotional impact of sexual violence or abuse
- work, school and college pressures
- identity, change and uncertainty
- loneliness, anger, feeling unable to cope
- men’s mental health and wellbeing
- repeated emotional or relationship patterns
Training, qualifications & experience
My Training and Professional Membership
I completed four years of counselling study and practitioner training. This included Level 2 Counselling Skills and Level 3 Counselling Studies at North Warwickshire and South Leicestershire College, followed by my Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling at South Staffordshire College.
I am a qualified counsellor and Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP). I work within the BACP Ethical Framework and undertake regular professional supervision to support safe, ethical and reflective practice.
My Counselling Experience
My counselling experience includes two and a half years volunteering within a counselling service supporting NHS workers. During this time, I counselled people working across healthcare, including consultants, doctors, nurses, administrative staff and colleagues in a variety of other roles.
The reasons people sought counselling were varied and were not limited to workplace difficulties. Clients brought experiences involving anxiety, stress, loss, relationships, confidence, personal change, emotional distress and the pressures of balancing demanding professional and personal lives. This required me to listen carefully and adapt the counselling process to each person’s circumstances and needs.
I have also worked with the charity SARAC for more than 18 months, supporting people affected by sexual violence, abuse and trauma. More recently, this work has included counselling young people through SARAC in local schools across Tamworth and Lichfield.
These healthcare, charitable and educational settings have strengthened my understanding of trauma-informed counselling, safeguarding and the importance of providing a calm environment in which clients retain choice and control.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

My Counselling Approach
I work from a person-centred foundation while using an integrative approach to counselling. This means that our relationship, your perspective and your individual needs remain central, while I may draw upon other appropriate therapeutic ideas when they could support our work.
I believe that you are the expert in your own life. My role is not to judge you, make decisions for you or tell you what you should do. I will work collaboratively with you, helping you explore what you are experiencing, recognise patterns, understand emotional responses and consider your own way forward.
Counselling is adapted to you rather than expecting you to fit into one fixed therapeutic model. Some people find it helpful to talk freely, while others need gentle questions, reflection or time to build trust before discussing difficult experiences. You remain in control of what you choose to explore.
What Happens When You Contact Me?
I offer a free introductory conversation lasting up to 30 minutes. This provides an opportunity to tell me briefly what has brought you to counselling, ask questions and learn more about how I work.
The introductory conversation is not a full counselling session, and there is no pressure or obligation to book an appointment afterwards. It is an opportunity for us to consider whether my experience, approach and availability are suitable for what you need.
If we decide to work together, I offer 60-minute face-to-face counselling sessions in Tamworth, Staffordshire, and online counselling appointments for clients elsewhere in the UK.
You do not need to prepare what you are going to say or have all the answers before getting in touch. We can start with what you know now and take the next step at a pace that feels manageable.
If you would like to find out whether counselling with Rachael Emma Counselling could support you, please contact me to arrange your free introductory conversation.
