About me
People come to counselling for different reasons, whether it’s experiencing something which is causing distress, numbness, not feeling ‘right’ for some time or a curiosity to learn more about yourself.
Experiencing mental health difficulties such as stress, anxiety, low self-esteem and depression can also cause us to act in ways, which sometimes feel out of control.
As your counsellor we will explore together how you are effected day to day. We will also uncover potential contributing factors, so that you can make changes over time, and feel calmer and more centred in yourself.
I am an integrative counsellor which means I draw on different theories and approaches which are tailored to you. I specialise in working with people who are experiencing any type of life change. These changes can cause us to feel lost and question who we are.
Key to my approach, is developing a relationship with you, that enables you to bring your ‘whole self’ to our work together. Many of us have parts of ourselves we hide because we don’t like them or want to change them. I will support you to understand and accept your different parts, so that you can have a better relationship with yourself, which will enable you to cope even more effectively with the ups and downs of life.
Sometimes our experiences are hard to put into words, so alongside traditional talking therapy, I work creatively to access those experiences for which it may be difficult to express through talking alone. Don’t worry, this doesn’t mean that you have to be artistic, it will just involve us doing some activities, that support you to explore your situation from different perspectives.
Working together:
I am experienced in working with:
Trauma including childhood trauma
Family / relationship issues
Bereavement
Anxiety, depression, stress
Identity
Seeking greater meaning or purpose in life
My area of specialty is supporting people through significant life changes such as:
Mid life
Menopause
Empty nest
Life after burnout
Career change
Preparing for retirement
These life changes can bring both grief for what may be lost, and also the hope for the future and this can be a difficult path to walk, to give attention to both the loss and the gain. Dependent on our previous experiences, we may tend towards one or the other and for us to effectively move through these transitions in life it is useful to understand both. As your counsellor I will support you to explore all aspects in a safe, contained way to support your transition.
A Bit About Me:
Finding a counsellor who works well with you is fundamental, so I believe that it is important that I tell you a little about myself.
I have worked with people of all ages, in many different areas, including both the public and private sectors, and the NHS. My experience supports my knowledge and understanding of difference, and I am mindful of how our uniqueness can shape our experiences of the world and others.
I have over twenty years’ experience of supporting people with making positive changes in their life. My interest in neuroscience, means that I understand how brains grow, develop and learn. In addition to this, my understanding of the body-brain connection means that I can work with you to recognise the physical effect your psychological experiences may be having on your body.
Never too far from woodlands, sea, or the Norfolk Broads, I find nature particularly inspiring and calming and particularly appreciate Norfolk’s ‘big skies’. Even when visiting more urban areas, I take time to find green areas, or a moment to appreciate the night sky on a clear evening. I also take time to nurture my creative side, through writing, singing, pottery and other craft-related pursuits.
I offer a free initial half-hour telephone or video call, where we can explore your requirements. You will also have the chance to ask questions about my approach, so that we can decide whether we are the right fit for one another.

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.

UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
