Penny Simmonite (BA Hons) MBACP Registered - Psychotherapeutic Counsellor
You may be feeling life is just too much to manage, or perhaps something from your past may be impacting on how you are feeling today.
Taking the first step in acknowledging you might benefit from obtaining support from someone outside your family or friends, takes courage. Counselling can be challenging, but rewarding, as we explore together how you are feeling right now and how you would like to feel in the future.
My aim is to create a safe environment where you can come and talk confidentially, without judgement, about whatever is troubling you or causing you distress.
I offer a warm, open and supportive relationship. My belief is that the therapeutic relationship that is created between us will allow you to gain more insight, self-awareness and self-understanding, enabling you to make the changes that you might want to make, to live a more fulfilling and contented life.
Training, qualifications & experience
In addition to my private practice, I have several years' experience of working in an NHS GP practice and workplace counselling service offering psychotherapy support to a wide range of adults and older adults.
I am a fully trained and qualified psychotherapeutic counsellor with a First Class BA (Hons) degree in Integrative-Relational Counselling from Middlesex University and am a registered member of the BACP. I adhere to the BACP Ethical Framework for Good Practice in Counselling and Psychotherapy and my work is supervised by a senior practitioner.
Prior to my counselling career, I worked for a number of large FTSE 100 companies with the health and care sector and in 2000 I obtained a BA (Hons) degree in Business Management (2:1) from Leeds Beckett University.
As part of my continuous professional development, I enjoy attending regular ongoing training sessions.
I am an approved provider of psychotherapy and counselling services for AXA PPP Healthcare, Aetna International and Vitality Health Care.
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.
Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.
All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
Accredited register membership
Accredited Register Scheme
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
Areas of counselling I deal with
I offer an introductory session, to see how we might work together. This initial consultation fee is £50. Thereafter, my fee is £60 per 50 minute session.
I also offer a limited number of low cost places (minimum £40).
Method of payment: Bank transfer or cash.
Sessions are for 50 minutes. I offer both long and short term weekly counselling/therapy.
As an integrative relational counsellor, I use my training and expertise to use the best approach to suit your individual needs. The list of therapies I use are shown above.
I have been providing an online-only counselling service since March, but will be offering face-to-face sessions for those clients who would prefer to meet in person, from the beginning of August, subject to neither party having symptoms of Covid-19.
I have therapy rooms in the centre of Farnham and close to Guildford, and can also offer sessions in Godalming and Surbiton, by arrangement.
