About me
People look for counselling for all sorts of reasons – feeling stuck, overwhelmed, confused, or simply wanting to understand themselves better. If you’re considering talking things through, I’m here to offer a space where you can do that at your own pace, with someone who’ll really listen and help you make sense of things.
I’m Paul. I offer counselling through my practice, Two Trees Counselling, working with clients at Orion House in Stamford and in Elton (Peterborough), as well as online. As a person‑centred counsellor, I believe we all have the ability to make sense of our experiences, even when life feels particularly challenging.
You might be dealing with something recent, trying to make sense of past experiences, or noticing that things just don’t feel quite right. In my experience, having a consistent, supportive relationship can make a real difference when things feel difficult. Counselling offers a place to talk openly and explore what’s happening in your life.
How I Work
Finding a counsellor who feels like a good fit can take time, especially with so many approaches and qualifications to choose from. It’s completely understandable to feel unsure about where to start.
To help with this, I offer a free 15‑minute phone call. It’s a chance for us to talk things through, for you to ask any questions, and to get a sense of what working together might feel like. We can also cover practical details, such as where sessions take place and how I work, so you can decide whether I’m the right person for you.
I work collaboratively, checking in regularly so we can make sure the sessions are meeting your needs. I encourage open conversation about how the work feels and what’s helpful. While my foundation is person‑centred, I can draw on other approaches when it feels appropriate and supportive for you.
Training, qualifications & experience
Qualifications and Experience
First Class Honours Degree in Therapeutic Counselling and Psychotherapy (Level 6)
Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling (Level 5)
In addition, I have a Certificate in Counselling Young People (Level 2)
I have experience working with both adults and young people who have presented with a range of issues. This includes, but is not limited to, anxiety, depression, grief and loss, self-harm, and loneliness.
My core approach is person‑centred, but I also draw on ideas from other models when they feel useful for you. This sometimes includes elements from CBT (which looks at the links between thoughts, feelings and actions) or ACT (which focuses on helping you relate differently to difficult thoughts and feelings). I see therapy as an ongoing conversation about what’s helpful, and we can explore together what supports you best.
I am a member of the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS), registered with the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), and I hold professional liability insurance with Oxygen.

Please note: While I’ve ticked certain areas of focus on the counselling directory, these are not exhaustive or rigid. Person-centred counselling can be helpful across a wide range of experiences, even if it forms just one part of a broader support system.
If my profile and approach resonate with you, but your particular concern isn’t listed, please feel free to contact me. It may be that the counselling I offer could still be beneficial, either on its own or alongside more specialist support

Further information
I practice from two locations: one based in Stamford, and the other in Elton, Peterborough. While the Peterborough location is at ground level, the Stamford room is at the top of a flight of stairs and is therefore inaccessible to wheelchair users. I apologise for this inconvenience.
Online sessions are also available should this work better for you.
