About me
Hello, I am Pamela, a fully qualified and insured Person-Centred counsellor working with adults (18+), either face to face in Stroud or on the phone.
Your reason for looking for a therapist may not even be totally clear to you right now, but you do know that something needs to change. It may be what is happening in the present that feels the most difficult for you or you may feel it's time to reflect on what has happened to you. As a Person-Centred counsellor, I will encourage you to take control and decide what you want to bring to our sessions. Nobody knows your lived experience like you do, so only you know what is right for you to address at this point in your life. We will work collaboratively, without judgement, in a safe and held manner.
I truly believe that 'the body keeps the score' and have undertaken additional training on this subject matter. I also believe that the relationship we have with ourselves impacts how we are in all of our other relationships, so understanding ourselves better has got to be worth the time and energy.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have a Level 4 CPCAB Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling, a BA Honours Degree in Psychology and a Certificate of Proficiency from BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy).
I have attended several 7-day silent meditation and healing retreats.
Alongside my private practice, I have been a volunteer counsellor for 4 years for a local charity that offers low-cost counselling in Gloucestershire, ensuring that counselling is accessible to everyone.
I have worked with clients from all kinds of backgrounds, working alongside them as they deal with anxiety, depression, stress, low self-esteem, social anxiety, relationship issues, childhood trauma, anger, domestic abuse, boarding school trauma, self-harm (themselves and/or their children), fear of death and loss (which takes many forms - death, divorce, absent parent, miscarriage, infertility, empty nest, the ageing process, of self...........the list goes on). I have also worked with clients who have a diagnosis of ADHD or are waiting to see a specialist.
Member organisations

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
