About me
Hello, I am Pamela at The River Counselling, based in Nottingham near the River Trent (Beeston and West Bridgeford). I understand that life's currents can bring moments of profound grief, significant loss, wanting changes, or the challenging journey of exploring neurodiversity. These experiences, though universal, can feel isolating. I am here to offer a safe, trauma informed and empathetic space for adults and young people to explore these feelings, find understanding, and discover new paths forward. Together we can navigate your journey with care and compassion.
Training, qualifications & experience
My journey began with over thirty years in education, including extensive work with children with additional needs. I have an Honours Bachelor in Education. This was complemented by dedicated volunteering with youth organisations and as a volunteer counsellor at Treetops Hospice, supporting bereaved adults and children. We also gained valuable experience answering calls for Childline. These experiences culminated in a Professional Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling Practice, shaping my approach to grief, loss, change, anxiety and neurodiversity. I am a Person Centred practitioner however I will use creative approaches and other modalities if we feel they would be helpful.

Further information
So I am not a stranger, here is a little bit more about me. I reached a point in my life where I was unhappy in my job, my children had left home and I felt lost despite having lots of wonderful people and experiences in my life. I left teaching and spent time reflecting on what was next.
I retrained as a counsellor and gained experience through volunteering as a counsellor at Childline and at Treetops Hospice. Supporting people at a difficult point in their life is a tremendous privilege and work which I find rewarding.
By bringing my life experience, training and personality to counselling I hope to work together with you to help you find a path to live the life you want.
I'm a Nottingham lass who fills her time with plants, art, knitting, saxophones and gets outside as much as possible.
That's me. I'd like to know more about you.
