About me

I love my work and feel energised meeting people.

I have many years of working in the field together with a commitment to ongoing professional and personal development which means I feel confident in offering a service to people for most of life's challenges. If I can't help I will be clear and help redirect you.

I like to have an initial short telephone chat for us to gain a sense of how we may work together therapeutically. This allows you to ask any questions about me and what to expect about the Counselling/Psychotherapy process.

I believe we can often be held back by self doubt and fearful inner critics and so Therapy can be about developing a strong compassionate voice for the self and much of my work can be about finding ways to develop this so you can enjoy as much of life as possible.  I also like to bring my sense of humour to the relationship when needed as there are often times when we can celebrate even in bleak times.

I live and work in Argyll and in my leisure time enjoy walking my 2 Spaniels 'Mac' and 'Malty' in all weather with friends and family.

Training, qualifications & experience

I started my career as an Occupational Therapist and had over 30 years of experience working for the NHS in the fields of Mental Health and Learning Disability. During this time I completed an additional training with the Edinburgh Gestalt Institute where I did my Diploma in Gestalt Therapy.  I am an Accredited member of the BACP with now over 20 years of experience working in private practice.

I love teaching and have delivered training to organisations on many various topics related to the Counselling world.

I offer Psychotherapy and Counselling to Individuals, Couples and Groups

I can also provide both individual and Group Supervision.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Further information

Like many therapists, the pandemic has meant that I have had to embrace working through video links with people and I have been surprised how well this can work and I will now continue to offer this service as an option.
