About me

I'm Owen, a Clinical Psychologist with over 10 years’ experience in the NHS.

We all go through tougher chapters from time to time and can get caught up struggling with stress, anxiety or low mood. Sometimes we need support to navigate problems in relationships or the emotional impact of physical illness, ageing or loss. I take a compassionate and collaborative approach to help my clients deal with such issues, aiming to empower them to develop skills that they can draw upon for the rest of their lives. I work in partnership with clients from our first contact in order to tailor my approach to suit your needs and preferences.

If you would like to speak with me to see if I am the right therapist for you, I offer a free 15-minute phone call to talk about your needs and how I can help. Please message me on here or simply book a slot directly on my website: www.owenryeclinpsy.com

Training, qualifications & experience

I am trained in using a range of evidence-based talking therapies, including Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT). I am particularly passionate about Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) to help my clients live a more fulfilling life by doing more of what matters most to them personally, by using techniques to overcome thoughts or other issues in the way.

I've worked in a wide range of specialities with people from all walks of life struggling with different issues. This has included common mental health difficulties such as anxiety and depression, the emotional impact of physical health problems, particularly chronic fatigue, pain and HIV, and specialist criminal justice services. I have worked in many settings, from community clinics to acute hospital wards, as well as online by video. My breadth of experience has made me adept at tailoring my knowledge and skills to suit my clients' needs.

By virtue of my doctoral training at the University of Oxford and further professional development, I am skilled in using a range of evidence-based talking therapies, particularly:

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
  • Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT)
  • Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT)
  • Mindfulness-based approaches

I work in partnership with my clients to agree which therapeutic approach best suits their needs and their personal preferences, and I can integrate elements from multiple therapies when this is most likely to help.
