About me
Hi, I'm Nicola, I'm an integrative therapist specialising in trauma and attachment. I offer one-to-one sessions to private clients either via Zoom or in my woodland garden therapy room and I run group writing therapy for survivors of sexual violence through Not Just You charity online.
My overall approach is Gestalt (the relationships between parts and wholes) with a strong trauma focus influenced by neuroscience and evolution and augmented with Compassion Focused Therapy which is particularly helpful for shame and self-criticism.
Generally, what I help you to do is look at the thing that is bothering you which currently seems like an overwhelming whole. I help you to break it down into a series of micro-steps - physiological reactions, bodily sensations, images, implicit and explicit memories, thoughts and emotions. Through growing awareness over your process we can start to get choice and control so that you can respond rather than reacting. You can choose how to be.
I also think it is important to consider your environment, to see how your life space and the structures that contain you affect your internal process. By taking both of these steps we can look at the story of your life, see how you have understood it and what you expect from it so that we can make sure it is a story that is serving you.
