About me

I am a BACP accredited counsellor and psychotherapist who specialises in working with loss and grief.

My work reflects my understanding that loss and grief are an expected part of life. We experience grief at various times in our lives and this is not restricted to when someone dies but when we lose anything that is important to us: our relationships, our dreams of having a family, our hopes and expectations, independence, jobs, pets, home or health. As a result, I work with people who are grieving from a wide range of losses.

Living with losses in life is not so much about getting over those losses as finding ways to live a happy and full life that includes them. Through our work together I can support you in making sense of losses and adjusting to a different life and different expectations.

Many people find that 6 – 12 sessions will make significant changes to their lives. For others, longer term work best fits their needs and goals. We will work together to achieve a counselling intervention tailored to suit you as an individual.

I charge £40 for an initial consultation so we can see if it feels like a good fit for us to work together. My fees are £60 per session thereafter. Sessions last 50 minutes and reduced fees are available when blocks of 6 sessions are booked and paid for in advance.

I am able to see a limited number of clients at a concessionary rate, so please feel free to contact me to discuss this if the above fees are cost prohibitive.

Training, qualifications & experience

I started off my career as a lawyer and retrained as a counsellor and psychotherapist at Regent’s University (London) over 15 years ago.

I have worked with a wide range of clients including (but not limited to) the bereaved; people living with life limiting illnesses and their families; those struggling or unable to conceive; those involved in the child protection system; survivors of domestic violence; prison inmates; LGBT+ communities; people affected by HIV and AIDS; and survivors of genocide, torture, persecution, displacement and systematic sexual assault.

My work has been in a variety of settings including the NHS, prison service, schools and the charity sector. Most recently I managed psychological support services at an adult hospice in the Greater Manchester area.

I became an accredited member of the BACP in 2006. I am committed to developing as a professional and regularly attend conferences, clinical workshops and training courses. I have a particular interest in working with trauma and have completed specialist training in this area.

Further information

My key objective as your counsellor is to help you explore and make sense of what is going on in your inner world, to put things into words and to find the answers that work for you, so that you are not left alone – in a room – with an elephant.
