About me

We all experience losses in life – not just when someone dies but when we lose anything that is important to us: our relationships, our dreams of having a family, our health, our home, our job, our independence, our pets, and our hopes or expectations.

Often, we are able to grieve for those losses and adjust but sometimes we are left feeling anxious, depressed, overwhelmed, angry, guilty, ashamed, withdrawn, or numb for many months or even years later.

Adjusting to losses in life is not about ‘getting over’ them but about finding ways to live a life that includes them.

I am a BACP Accredited Psychotherapist & Counsellor specialising in loss, grief and trauma.

Together we can work to make sense of your loss, to relieve intrusive thoughts and images, and to better manage your thoughts and feelings; helping you to stop feeling stuck, to adjust to events and changes in your life, and to begin to embrace life more fully.

My goal is to help you explore and make sense of what is going on for you, to put it into words, and for us to look for answers and strategies that work for you, so that you no longer feel alone with your loss and grief.

Get in touch to see how we can work together to help you adapt to life after loss.

Training, qualifications & experience

I trained as a psychotherapist and counsellor at the School of Psychotherapy & Counselling, Regent’s University (London) over 20 years ago and became an accredited member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP) in 2006. This means that I have undergone rigorous checks by a professional body, so you can be assured that you are in safe hands.

I have had a private practice over many years and have also worked in a variety of settings including the NHS, hospices and palliative care services, and the charity sector. I have led specialist services for the bereaved, people living with life limiting illnesses and their families, those struggling or unable to conceive, and LGBTQIA+ communities.

I have been a keynote speaker at a number of local and national conferences on the topic of loss and bereavement, including a presentation for the BACP on ‘Working effectively with traumatic grief’.

I know how traumatic loss and grief can be and have had specialist training in trauma with some of the world’s leading experts in the field. I also offer Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) as an additional way to help you achieve your goals.

I look forward to hearing from you so I can help you move from surviving to truly thriving.

Member organisations

Registered / Accredited

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Other areas of counselling I deal with

I am a BACP Accredited Psychotherapist and Counsellor specialising in loss, grief and trauma.

I am one of only a handful of EMDR Intensive therapists in the UK and a pioneer in delivering this type of therapy in the North West. Whilst weekly EMDR sessions can bring about dramatic improvements over a relatively short period of time for many issues including traumatic life events, difficulties with self-esteem and confidence, phobias, low mood, anxiety and more. An EMDR Intensive can ‘turbo charge‘ this process and is increasingly considered to be the state of the art way to treat trauma.

I offer a full day intensive programme which combines work to build your inner resources followed by a deep dive using EMDR to process your memories and the road blocks that may prevent you from living a more fulfilling life.
