About me

Hi I’m Nikki

A warm welcome and I hope you find my profile helpful. Here’s the good news! whatever it is that you're struggling with, be it in your relationship, personal or work life counselling can help. I offer a warm and non judgemental space in which you can explore, identify and work on a range of problems and situations that may be troubling you.

My experience and approach

I am a BACP registered, highly experienced and professionally qualified counsellor and psychotherapist and I have been helping clients with varied and multiple issues for over 16 years. I offer short term counselling and long term psychotherapy and CBT to individuals and relationship counselling to couples.

I now work solely in private practice but much of my early experience was  gained in the NHS and I have worked as a counsellor and case manager for a global organisation offering workplace assistance and crisis management.

My area of expertise is in carefully listening to you so that we both understand what is really troubling you. By feeling heard and understood you will naturally gain insight into your behaviours, thoughts and feelings and become more self aware. When we have a deeper understanding of ourselves we become self reflective and are at liberty to begin making positive choices for ourselves and stop feeling "stuck" leading to a freer, happier life.

What are you experiencing?

Are you feeling unhappy in your relationship, personal or work life?

Are you experiencing difficult and intrusive thoughts?

Perhaps you’re feeling emotional, sad, angry or quick to react?

Do you find yourself going round and round in the same old cycles?

Are you struggling to feel motivated?

Does it seem impossible to communicate with your partner?

Have you experienced a trauma, betrayal or bereavement?

Perhaps you have been diagnosed with anxiety, stress or depression?

You might be wondering if you have ADHD, low self esteem or low self confidence

Is it work that’s getting you down or work/life balance?

There are many reasons why you might be contemplating counselling, it’s often just that you're not feeling great or coping as well as you usually do and you don’t know why.

How I can help

At my lovely premises in Chandlers Ford, I will offer you a warm, welcoming and non judgemental counselling service where you will feel heard, understood and safely supported with your presenting issues. I will support you through navigating your way to achieve a better understanding of your feelings and behaviours, facilitating change and leading to a happier life and more fulling relationships.

Lets see if we’re a good fit

Finding the right therapist can feel overwhelming and it’s important that you feel comfortable and confident in your choice. I offer a free 30-minute consultation so that you can  see how I work, we can chat through your therapeutic needs and discuss how I can support you. There’s no pressure or obligation just an opportunity to ask questions and get a feel for whether I’m the right therapist for you.

Why Counselling?

Why counselling as opposed to talking to a friend or relative? This is a good question and very relevant when you're considering investing in counselling or psychotherapy. Perhaps a better question is to ask what counselling can offer you that a friend can't?

As your counsellor I can offer you an unbiased view of your situation. I have no agenda other than to help you understand yourself and facilitate a new awareness, perspective and achieve clarity. I can help you identify areas in your life that you would like to change and bring back a sense of control.

When you experience this feeling of being heard and understood it is transformative and healing. My clients regularly report feeling somehow lighter and more able to manage their feelings.

If you're curious about counselling and wondering how it might help you or you would like more information please feel free to contact me on 07411512482 or email nikkicharrett@live.co.uk

My practice is located in Chandlers Ford just off M3 junction 12 within easy reach of Winchester, Southampton, Eastleigh, Chandlers Ford and surrounding areas and there is free parking available.

With over 16 years experience in private practice I have worked extensively with a broad range of issues, helping clients achieve a better understanding of their thoughts, feelings and behaviours.

My work with couples is grounded in achieving better connection, communication and appreciation of the other. If we can cross the bridge into the world our partner or spouse inhabits and walk in their shoes we can learn new ways to find fulfilment in the relationship even when it might feel broken. Through dialogue and gentle guidance I encourage you both to put aside blame and criticism and to hold onto hope when you enter the counselling room. After all without that, what is there?

I am fully ensured and committed to my continuing professional development in order to provide up to date therapy based in modern research and neuroscience.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
