About me
I offer short, medium and long-term psychodynamic counselling in person and by telephone or Zoom sessions.
This is with Young Adults 13 - 18, and Adults.
If you wish to contact me by phone or e-mail, I would be pleased to answer any questions that you may have about counselling and how we may work together to your benefit.
Within the sessions we can explore your past and present difficulties and what your hopes are for the future. The first sessions are valuable for outlining your issues and expectations and to help you to set your agenda, aims and review points. We can also decide how to pace the sessions and how many sessions you might require and at what frequency.
I have worked in mental health care over for over 30 years and have experience in providing a safe and confidential therapeutic relationship that offers a balance of support and challenge. It is the relationship that is at the heart of the healing process as it facilitates and enables personal development towards positive change.
Whilst focusing on your unique issues we may also seek meaning in past or present circumstances to shed light on their origins or processes. Central to this will be learning about yourself and exploring your options for change, to the benefit of your emotional well-being and relationships in the future.
The issues that we can work through include; anxiety, including generalised anxiety and panic, OCD, depression, anger, bereavement and loss, issues with relationships and complex mental health difficulties.
I work using a psychodynamic model and incorporate elements from other approaches including; CBT, Person-Centred therapy, Mindfulness and Existential therapy. These approaches provide a framework for a personalised approach which is calm, compassionate and mindful.
Training, qualifications & experience
I completed a Post-Graduate Diploma in Psychodynamic Practice in 1993 and undertook my own therapy for several years as part of this training.
I am a member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists and I abide by their codes of ethics and practice. This includes a commitment to continued learning towards further accreditation and regular supervision for my therapeutic work.
I have current Professional Civil Liability Insurance and DBS certification.
With experience as a Registered Mental Health Nurse for over 30 years, I have worked latterly as a Clinical Nurse Manager and a Specialist Liaison Nurse.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
