About me
Hi,
If you're reading this then the chances are that you're perhaps not feeling too great at the moment. The good news is that there is support available and a better future is possible. Counselling enabled me reflect on myself and where I was in life and helped me to start a journey towards a more meaningful and fulfilling life. I took so much from my counselling journey that I retrained to be able to offer to others the same sort of life changing support I received .
Who I am?
I was brought up in a working-class family in Wigan and this is my second career. After graduating from the University of Manchester I worked for over 20 years in a number of corporate roles, most recently commissioning public health services including drug & alcohol detox and rehabilitation services, sexual health services and also services for the victims of domestic violence. I am now a full time therapist but bring a wealth of experience of working in a busy competitive corporate environment.
My Approach to Therapy
My approach to therapy begins with understanding you, building an effective supportive, empathetic relationship, understanding your aspirations, and mutually discovering the approach that will be most beneficial for each client.
Key hallmarks of my therapeutic approach include ensuring you feel heard, listening to your story, engaging respectfully and empathetically with your insights, and feelings. I believe that if counselling is to be effective it is essential that you get a strong sense of the “right fit” with their Therapist.
I work in a pluralistic way as I believe different methodologies work for different people at different times. I have completed a Post-Grad Diploma (Distinction) in Counselling and Psychotherapy that included training in Person Centred Therapy and Cognitive Behavioural therapy. I have also undertaken extensive CPD in Solution Focused therapy. I can therefore tailor my style and counselling method to what seems to fit for each individual, this can involve being goal focused or just getting alongside people for support.
Who do I work with?
I work with men and women from 18 onwards with a wide range of presenting issues including anxiety, depression, burnout, regret, life & career transitions and relationship difficulties. I also have experience of working successful with both Autism and ADHD. Furthermore I also have experience of working with people from a variety of ethnic backgrounds and also clients from the LGBT community

Member organisations

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
