About me

I am an HCPC registered Arts Therapist offering dramatherapy to adults, young people and children.

In our work together I seek to offer a non-judgemental, confidential, and creative space for you to explore whatever experiences, difficulties, and questions you feel need attention in your life.

The therapeutic relationship that I develop with you is at the core of my approach and my aim is for us to work together to create a space that feels safe enough for a process of healing and change to unfold in your life. The approach I take is psychodynamic and considers how the past plays a part in the struggles we experience in the present. Acknowledging and exploring this can enable a necessary shift in our understanding of ourselves and our current circumstances. This has the potential to enliven us, to expand our sense of who we are, and to allow us to better adapt to the changes and challenges that we face in our lives.

Dramatherapy

As a dramatherapist, I work with image, metaphor, story and embodiment/movement. This arts based approach can offer the benefits of:

  • allowing expression of things that you may not yet have the words for
  • a less threatening way of relating to experiences that you are not ready to talk about directly
  • opening up your creativity, sometimes in new and surprising ways.

No experience of creative practice is necessary to engage in dramatherapy. Talking is still very much part of how I work, and I adapt the creative elements of my approach to best allow you to feel at ease in how you express yourself.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have worked across NHS mental health services, charities, and education for the last 10 years. My experience includes working with adults, young people, children and families, often supporting the parents and carers of children and young people with complex needs.

I am an HCPC registered Arts Therapist and member of the British Association of Dramatherapists (BADth). You can find more about the professional bodies that I belong to in the links below:

HCPC
Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)

The HCPC are an independent, UK-wide health regulator. They set standards of professional training, performance and conduct for 16 professions.

They keep a register of health professionals who meet their standards, and they take action if registered health professionals fall below those standards. They were created by a piece of legislation called the Health Professions Order 2001.

Registration means that a health professional meets national standards for their professional training, performance and conduct.

Further information

I offer a free initial conversation to meet and decide if beginning working together feels right for you. This is for both online (20 min) or in person (40 min). If you then decide to progress to start working together, we will begin a 4-6 week assessment process to develop a fuller sense of the things you want to bring to therapy and how we work together. This assessment process will take place on a weekly basis. Following this we can both decide if a longer term arrangement is appropriate. There will then be the option of weekly or fortnightly therapy with regular reviews on how things are progressing.
