About me
Hi
I'm a person-centred and experiential psychotherapist/counsellor. This basically means that I believe you are more of an expert in your life than I am and you have the ability to grow into who you want to be if you're provided with the right conditions. I will offer these conditions.
Too often we forget who we really are and get consumed with pleasing others and being what they want us to be or we might not really know who we are and want to find out. In working with you, I will try to understand you as an individual and create a non-judgemental space for us to work together to reflect on your life and the challenges within it. If you feel safe and able to talk about anything you will develop your coping strategies, grow and change in ways that you may otherwise not have been able to. I won't analyse or advise you but I will reflect back to you what you might not realise you're saying and I might offer ideas for discussion and reflection. We would work together to explore what's going on for you in order for you to come to your own conclusions and find your own way forward.
I offer short and long term therapy for adults. I work with clients with a variety of issues including trauma, relationship issues, depression, anxiety, and bereavement to name a few. I am based in Nottingham. I offer face to face, video conference and telephone counselling. (Please note, that access to my therapy room is via stairs, please consider this if you have mobility issues).
Training, qualifications & experience
I hold a Masters in Person-centred and Experiential Psychotherapy from Staffordshire University.
I have extensive experience of working in the criminal justice system with a range of people who have had multiple disadvantages in life, leading to criminal behaviour. This, combined with my therapy experience working in services for teenagers and young adults, women, and vulnerable people with complex needs has provided me with a wealth of experience building relationships with a variety of clients from all walks of life. I have worked with numerous issues including, but not limited to; anxiety. depression, trauma, relationship difficulties, bereavement, addiction and substance misuse.
Particular areas of interest for me are;
- Body acceptance and fat liberation (as a plus-size woman I have lived experience of what it is like to be fat)
- The change process including what keeps us stuck from moving forward when we really want to
- Humour in therapy (having a laugh can break down barriers and facilitate relating on a different level)
- Encouraging men to access therapy (society, culture, family dynamics and gender expectations lead to barriers to men gaining the support they need)
- Use of popular culture (TV, books and films) in supporting reflection and learning about ourselves. (Sometimes relating to a fictional character or scenario can make it easier to talk through or open up different areas of reflection).
Member organisations
school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.
As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.
UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
