About me
I offer short and long term therapy for people ages 16 and above. I can help you with issues such as trauma, relationship difficulties, depression, anxiety, bereavement, substance misuse, work problems and many more.
I offer face to face appointments in Stamford, Lincolnshire. Video conference and telephone counselling are available if you prefer those methods. (Please note, that access to my therapy room is via stairs, please consider this if you have mobility issues).
I believe that, although it might not feel like it at times, you are the expert in your life and you have the ability to grow into who you want to be if you're provided with the right conditions. I will offer these conditions.
I will try to understand you as an individual and endeavour to create a space where you feel safe and able to talk about anything without judgement. This will help us work together to reflect on your life and the challenges within it. Clients who work with me tend to develop better coping strategies, and grow and change in ways that they may otherwise not have been able to. I won't analyse or advise you but I will reflect back to you what you might not realise you're saying and I might offer ideas for discussion and reflection. We would work together to explore what's going on for you in order for you to come to your own conclusions and find your own way forward.
Training, qualifications & experience
I hold a Masters in Person-centred and Experiential Psychotherapy from Staffordshire University.
I 've worked in the criminal justice system for over 20 years with a range of people who have had multiple disadvantages in life. This, combined with my therapy experience working in services for teenagers and young adults, women, and vulnerable people with complex needs has provided me with a wealth of experience building relationships with a variety of clients from all walks of life. As most therapists, I have worked with numerous issues including, but not limited to; anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship difficulties, bereavement, addiction, substance misuse, psychosexual difficulties and body image issues.
Particular areas of expertise for me are;
- Body acceptance and fat liberation (as a plus-size woman I have lived experience of what it is like to be in a bigger body)
- The change process including what keeps us stuck from moving forward when we really want to
- Humour in therapy (having a laugh can break down barriers and facilitate relating on a different level)
- Supporting men to open up and share their issues (society, culture, family dynamics and gender expectations lead to barriers to men gaining the support they need)
- Bringing popular culture (TV, books and films) into therapy to support reflection and learn about ourselves. (Sometimes relating to a fictional character or scenario can make it easier to talk through or open up different areas of reflection).
Member organisations
school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.
As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.
UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

I currently have availability on Mondays. I offer an initial free 15-20 minute consultation by telephone. This is a brief chat to understand what's led you to want counselling at this time and see if our availability matches. Following this you will be offered an initial assessment where I will ask a variety of questions including some that will help me to ensure that my training, skills and experience are relevant to you. In turn, you can ask any questions you may have and to see if we feel we can work together effectively.
