About me

BACP Accredited Registered Counsellor and Supervisor

I offer one to one individual counselling and couples counselling in a warm and confidential environment. For many people, counselling is an opportunity to explore issues which are troubling them, in a safe and non-judgemental space. Building a professional relationship with the right counsellor can be very rewarding and lead to greater self-awareness and freedom.

I work as an Integrative counsellor. Integrative just means a 'bringing together' of differing approaches, this means that I can draw on different counselling methods to form an approach appropriate and individual to you, drawing on psychodynamic and humanistic approaches and CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy).

I try to offer counselling that is the most useful to your circumstances, some people like to look at how they have got to where they are, others like practical strategies and ideas to manage their current situation, some both of these - whatever works best for you. Generally the counselling is shortish term - I'm aware you are paying! But some people like (or need) to take their time and that is ok too.

Painful or difficult feelings, repeated patterns of behaviour or troubled relationships often have their origins in past experience and it can sometimes be difficult to make the connection or to understand why these difficulties continue to affect our lives. Left unaddressed or unexplored, these painful feelings can become suppressed yet they are not forgotten and can express themselves in ways that are increasingly harmful in nature and can leave us feeling more confused and with very little choice.

These aspects can often influence the core needs we all have for security, self-worth and significance. You may feel feel disconnected and/or depressed; you may be confused, angry, or feeling guilty, anxious or just plain empty. These can all lead to feelings of hopelessness and isolation, you may even feel alienated and stuck in an impasse.

Maybe you have suffered a trauma or bereavement and are finding it difficult to cope. Perhaps you have been abused and are really struggling to survive. Maybe life just seems too hard and unfair. Maybe you and your partner are not getting on. Maybe the children are causing grief. Maybe you are dependent on alcohol or drugs, or are addicted to something and you wish to stop it. Maybe you are just finding it hard to keep your head above water.

Sometimes it feels very difficult to impose our problems on our friends and family and at these times it can help to have support from someone impartial.  Counselling can help you to discover things about yourself and gain an understanding that may help you to make changes that are helpful to you.

I am a BACP Accredited, qualified and experienced Counsellor based in Shropshire, offering short and long term individual counselling. For more information on who the BACP are, you might want to visit their website at http://www.bacp.co.uk/

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
