About me

Hello, my name is Meredith and I am a fully qualified and registered member of the BACP.

I offer a confidential and ethical telephone and online counselling service from my home. The current pandemic and lockdown is creating a great deal of anxiety and fear. I am experienced in working with clients who have been through trauma. I am familiar with clients who suffer from extreme anxiety, panic attacks and overwhelmingly negative thinking.

Our first sessions will give you the confidential and safe space to talk about everything that is on your mind. I will listen and try to understand your experiences. Together we will focus on your goals for counselling and we will track your progress over the sessions. The middle sessions are where we focus on what you feel your issues are and how you would like to be different. The final sessions are where we bring all your new self awareness and understanding together and make note of the progress you have made.

All through the work, I focus on self-compassion and encourage self care and kindness towards yourself. Deciding to get therapy is a big step and can be the most difficult step. Be reassured that counselling with me is having a conversation with a compassionate and non-judgemental person who believes that you have everything you need already to recover and find your joy in life. The therapy progresses at your preferred pace and is your opportunity to reflect on your experiences and to choose how you want to move on in your life.

Training, qualifications & experience

I was a research psychologist for many years before raising a family and then deciding to re-train as a counsellor. Since I qualified I have worked for Cruse Bereavement and New Pathways in Cardiff.

I am experienced in helping clients who suffer from anxiety, low mood and negative thinking. I have worked with clients who suffer from PTSD or PTSS and DID.

I support people who have experienced significant or difficult life events and my specialties include bereavement and grief work; supporting adults who have experienced childhood abuse; and supporting the families of survivors of childhood abuse abuse; rape trauma; domestic violence; people who have experienced childhood bullying.

I also work with clients who suffer from low self esteem and problems in relating to others.

I am qualified to provide telephone and online counselling.

Member organisations

BACP

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.

Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.

All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy

Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
