About me

Hello, my name is Meredith, I have been a therapist for close to a decade and I am a fully qualified and registered member of the BACP.

I run a private practice in Penarth, South Wales.

Our first sessions will give you the confidential and safe space to talk about everything that is on your mind. I will listen and try to understand your experiences. Together we will focus on your goals for counselling and in these early sessions we will get to know each other and settle in to a way of working. The middle sessions are where we focus on what you feel your issues are and how we might begin to resolve these. The final sessions are where we bring all your new self awareness and understanding together and celebrate the progress you have made.

All through the work, I focus on self-compassion and encourage self care and kindness towards yourself. Deciding to get therapy is a big step and can be the most difficult step. Be reassured that counselling with me is having a conversation with a compassionate and non-judgemental person who believes that you have everything you need already to recover and find your joy in life. The therapy progresses at your preferred pace and is your opportunity to reflect on your experiences and to choose how you want to move on in your life.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have a first degree and PhD in Psychology and a Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling.

I am experienced in helping clients who suffer from trauma and worked at a charity for Childhood Sexual Abuse and Rape Trauma for seven years.

I have also completed all of the Cruse Bereavement courses and worked with Cruse for 3 years.

I have recently completed 100 hours of training in Somatic Trauma Therapy.

I am qualified to provide in person, telephone and online counselling.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).

Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.

Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.

All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
