About me

Hi, I’m Matt.

For many years I’ve been studying how thoughts and emotions work together to shape our experience, and sometimes cause us great suffering. Thoughts arise in the mind, emotions in the body. It's this mind/body connection that a lot of psychotherapy ignores, often leaving you stuck in seemingly endless cycles, unable to break free from the past, or imagine a future beyond the emotional pain you are experiencing right now.

Through a unique system of therapy combining modern integrative counselling, visualisation and somatic/mindfulness techniques, I will help you to process troublesome emotions, while also breaking the negative thought patterns that support them; bringing a new found sense of peace, clarity and joy.

I have helped people with long term and short term issues such as severe anxiety, OCD, depression, self harm and trauma. I also have experience working with low self esteem, relationship issues, bereavement and life transitions. Whatever you are here for, you remain the expert on you, and we will always seek to help you find the answers, together. Book in a free 15min phone consultation, and let's get you on the path to feeling better.

How I work

My therapeutic system has helped a wide range of clients from all kinds of backgrounds and with many different needs.

It is based on three fundamental pillars.

Exploration: Exploring how we really think and feel about ourselves and our lives, can really change things in ways we never expected. All our work together will take place in a safe and non-judgemental space where any issues can be explored in-depth and with compassion, to foster the growth you wish to see in your life.

Integration: Using techniques developed over many years of practice, I will help you understand and integrate negative thoughts and emotions rather than trying (and failing) to push them away; leaving you with the tools to build a better future, whatever that looks like for you.

Meditation: I am a fully qualified mindfulness and meditation teacher proficient in teaching the four main schools of meditation. Meditation isn’t a religious practice or the product of the yoga studio. It’s an effective brain training tool that science is busy proving can provide stability, calm and peace; revealing our strong intuitive Self beneath all the thinking.

'I was referred to Matt at an extremely low point in my life full of anxiety, depression, and low self-esteem. I’m nearly 40 and have suffered with depression and anxiety my whole life, I’ve had numerous different types of counselling and therapies, but nothing ever really worked. Now, my anxiety is the lowest it’s ever been, and I no longer wake up wishing I wasn’t here. I’m hoping I won’t need any more therapy but if I do, I would definitely go back to Matt, he’s so friendly, welcoming and just puts you at ease. By far the best therapy I’ve ever had  – H

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

Further information

Our first session will be a time for you to breathe and find some space. To tell me what has brought you here and what you need from our process together. How you are feeling right now and what you would like to change. We'll talk about what a better future would look like for you and how we can work together to try and get you there.

While some fundamental things will always remain consistent each therapeutic journey is also completely individual. In our first session we'll outline our process and how we'll begin and continue our work together, answering any questions you may have.
