About me
My name is Maryam Samar. I am a qualified integrative counsellor and a member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and British Psychology Society (BPS). I am trained to blend different therapeutic approaches such as person-centred, psychodynamic, cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT), existential and solution-focused therapy. My pluralistic approach is designed according to my client’s personal needs. I have completed my BSc (Hons) Counselling degree at the University of East London, which required a rigorous three years of intense training, providing me with all the theoretical knowledge for my practice. I engage in regular supervision. I speak four languages fluently: English, Urdu, Hindi and Punjabi. I am fully insured and have an enhanced DBS check. I adhere to the BACP and BPS ethical framework.
I offer a safe, calm and non-judgmental environment for my clients to explore their thoughts and feelings affecting their daily lives. The planned regular sessions specially tailored to my clients allow them to focus on their lived experience and make connections to their current issues while looking into the client’s desires, values, beliefs, goals and hopes for their future.
My Approach
During the counselling process, my role is to support my clients by accepting them while providing a safe, comfortable space for them to explore their long-buried emotions openly. My aim is not to fix my clients' problems, but to help them find missing pieces of the puzzles for themselves. My acceptance and genuineness will enhance the necessary trust in clients to believe in their internal process.
While focusing on the client's ‘here and now' feelings and awareness to explore their current situations, I will also look into past experiences and future hopes and goals. The sessions will include talking and will be interjected with various interventions that will be tailored to each client. For example, art materials, working with metaphors, guided fantasies, written exercises etc. The diversity of these mediums will allow the clients to dive deep into their thoughts and express emotions through creativity and self-expression. As a counsellor, I aim to work collaboratively to process the possibility of finding ways for my clients to access life even in their most challenging times.

Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information
As an integrative counsellor, I plan to work with my clients based on their particular needs and personality. My task is to identify the primary focus for my clients' work by using an assessment interview and choosing relevant intervention techniques and a blend of different modalities. My main aim is to help clients by allowing them to find solutions to their problems. I emphasis the client being an expert, and I am a source of reflection and encouragement. While adopting a non-judgmental, empathic and respectful approach, I encourage my clients to adopt an open and real stance towards a more flexible and curious position to have more choice in how they feel, think and behave.
