About me
Hi I'm Mark
I'm an experienced professional counsellor and a registered member of both the BACP and ACC. I have worked with clients from many backgrounds, and am happy to work with clients from any background. I have lived and worked in Stoke-on-Trent all my life, with the exception of 3 years post A level education spent in Southampton.
For a whole host of reasons, the decision to come to counselling is not always an easy one. Often involving a level of courage and determination, well done for getting this far.
Life is not always straight forward and at times we can find ourselves struggling to cope with things as well as we used to or as well as we would like to. We may be experiencing uncomfortable feelings and thoughts.
I aim to provide a safe, secure and non-judgmental space where you can be heard. Somewhere where you can explore and come to understand better your emotions and thoughts, this in turn may help you to move forward and potentially do life a little differently.
I am an Integrative Counsellor, as such I use various counselling models. This means I am able to tailor counselling to the individual client's needs. I work one to one / face to face using. Using either of two rooms one in the North of Stoke, the other in Newcastle-under-Lyme. I am able to do either short term or longer term work depending on the client's particular situation. I have worked with clients experiencing a range of difficulties including.
- Anxiety and Depression
- Bereavement/Loss
- Low self-esteem
- ADHD
- OCD
- Phobias
- Anger
- Relational Difficulties
- Sexuality
- Spirituality
- Guilt
- Addiction
- Self Harm
- Abuse:- Physical, Sexual and Emotional
- Trauma
- Suicidal thoughts
I offer a pre counselling assessment session with no cost or commitment required from yourself. The aim being to learn a little about each other and how we both feel about working with each other.
I'm a mature semi-retired person, who is passionate about counselling and its usefulness.
I am a Christian. However, I do not consider myself a Christian Counsellor, rather a Counsellor who is a Christian.

Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
The Association of Christian Counsellors and Linked Professions is a professional body representing and setting standards for Christian counselling and care in the UK. The organisation is made up of various different membership categories, including Counsellor and Accredited, and requires all members working as counsellors to undertake Continuous Professional Development on a regular basis.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
