About me
Hiya! I’m Maizy. I’m a bubbly, warm, approachable, fully qualified psychotherapeutic counsellor, working in private practice. I focus on eating disorders, trauma, anxiety, neurodivergence and emetephobia, but I work with various different issues.
How I Work:
I work with an integrative approach, person-centred at my core, and include humanistic, psychodynamic, and aspects of gestalt and CBT approaches. I offer open-ended one-to-one 50 minute sessions for both short and long-term work together.
Eating Disorders, Anxiety, Trauma and Emetephobia:
A large amount of my work focuses on supporting those with eating disorders, anxiety, trauma, and emetephobia. I have lived-experience with these issues, and I understand how difficult this can feel. This can be a space to talk things through at your own pace, work towards your goals, and no longer feel that you need to hold this alone. I have experience working with clients, both through my private practice and within an established organisation.
With issues around eating, food, and body image, we can gently explore your relationship with food, your body, emotions, control, and the thoughts or experiences that may be impacting you. We can also explore where these difficulties may have come from and what may be keeping you feeling stuck. I understand these difficulties can feel very complex and overwhelming, and I offer a safe, non-judgemental space where we can work through things together. It can often feel like being unable to imagine a life without this, but it is possible with the right support.
With anxiety and trauma, we can explore how these experiences may be affecting your thoughts, feelings, relationships, and everyday life. We can gently look at patterns, triggers, difficult emotions, and where these responses may have come from, whilst building understanding, coping tools, and a stronger sense of yourself. You deserve support.
Emetophobia can have a significant impact on daily life including health anxiety, relationships, travel, work, eating, and difficult feelings around control and safety. This can be a space to gently explore this at your own pace, gain understanding and work towards it no longer restricting your life.
Alongside these areas, I also support people and have experience with a wide range of other difficulties, mental health issues, and life experiences. I welcome anyone who feels they may benefit from having a safe space to talk things through.
Some examples of other issues I work with include depression, low self-esteem, low confidence, grief/bereavement, stress, attachment styles, burnout, relationships breakdown, family issues, loneliness, suicidal thoughts, identity issues, emetophobia, sexual abuse, sexual violence, physical abuse, verbal abuse, emotional abuse, generalised anxiety disorder, OCD, affairs/cheating/betrayals etc.
Neurodivergence/Neurodiversity:
I work with adults from a range of backgrounds, including those who identify as neurodivergent. I have experience supporting clients with ADHD, autism, and other neurodivergent experiences, and I aim to create a space where you can feel understood and accepted for who you are. I also have personal experience of neurodivergence within my family, including both ADHD and autism, which has helped shape my understanding and compassion for the different ways people experience and move through the world. I know therapy isn’t one-size-fits-all, so we can work together in a way that suits you and your needs best.
Mens Mental Health:
I'm also passionate and experienced with supporting men with their mental health. I understand it can be difficult to reach out for support, particularly due to some stigma and what many men are taught throughout their lives, but I offer a space where you can speak openly and feel heard without judgement. Men deserve support too!
Moving Forward:
I’m passionate about helping people achieve their full-potential, reach their goals, and move towards the life they want. I believe that anyone can Thrive Through Therapy. I offer a safe, warm, non-judgemental space. If you’re interested, please do get in touch and we can work through this together!
I now have limited in-person (Downend, Bristol) and online slots available.
Introductory Call:
I offer a 15 minute free introductory call or a £20 30-minute initial video call session to see if this therapy is the right fit for you. This is an opportunity to introduce ourselves, get to know each other, and go through any questions you may have!
