Are you a highly sensitive person who feels things profoundly? (a gift to be sure! but not always an easy one) who likes to work at depth with what's concerning them.
I offer a free initial consultation (50 minutes) in which we can find out if what I offer is what you are needing.
Are you very empathic? perhaps with a tendency to be introverted? Do you feel (or have you been told!) that you are "too sensitive"? Perhaps even sometimes feeling that you weren't meant for this world? Perhaps you have isolated yourself to some degree in your life because of your highly sensitive nature, but now you long for the deep connections that you thrive on. Without the understanding relationships that we need so badly many of us get caught in lives that don't support us anywhere near fully and in the consequent cycles of creative blockages, anxiety, and depression that are natural symptoms of our unlived life.
I love to offer a supportive space in which together we can find out more about the gifts and the challenges of what it is to be your highly sensitive self in an extrovert dominant world. I am somatically trained, which means that I include an awareness of how your body is effected by what you are feeling and experiencing. I love to offer a space in which the pain of being highly sensitive can be recognised and in which your gifts can be unfurled and can blossom. How do Online and Telephone counselling sessions work?
They work very much like traditional face to face Counselling, providing a safe and confidential space in which issues that may be causing you concern or distress can be explored together.
Some people prefer the meetings by phone. These people seem to fall in to two different categories:
One: people who feel much freer and more comfortable to talk when they are not visible. (Some of you may recognise this feeling, especially if you suffer from social anxiety. Others of you may simply know that you can listen to yourself more deeply when the visual channel is removed).
Two: people who simply prefer a good old-fashioned phone call.
On the other hand some people prefer to meet online where you can see me and by seen by me. Some of you may know that you really need to feel seen in this way, in order to engage deeply within the session.
We meet on a weekly basis by phone or online by video and I will hold that space for you for the duration of the time we contract to work together. (For this I use Zoom and will send you a private link to you by email just before our meeting).
There is no problem too great or too small to bring.
Whoever you are, whatever you are struggling with, you are welcome.
Your engagement can be either short-term, or long-term open ended work. If you are not sure what you want, this is something we can discuss together during the initial free consultation (or feel free to contact me with your questions in advance).
I work within the Person-Centred approach, which is informed by the understanding that each person is unique, and underlined by a profound faith in each individual’s innate capacity to heal from the inside out when met in a spirit of true respect and empathic valuing.
The kind of presence and the quality of listening that is practiced in a truly Person-Centred way of working, aims to create a space in the context of a therapeutic relationship in which you can feel safe enough to explore and to express as much or as little of your own experience as you choose. You are the one in the driving seat here. That is particularly important, especially for those of you who have experienced pressure to conform to someone else's standards and needs, or who have experienced bullying, or criticism for wanting to do things in a way that feels right to you and at your own pace. Here, in our work together, we will find out what is YOUR natural way to do things and we will go at your pace.
Why do we do this?
In my experience when we feel fully heard and understood we are often then able to hear and understand ourselves more deeply. Sometimes in life we can find we need to seek out someone who can help us to find out or to remember who we really are. One that can help to provide us with the support we need to identify where we are stuck and to grow through and beyond our limitations.

Who might be particularly drawn to engage in a course of Counselling by Telephone or Online?
What distinguishes the service that I offer from face to face sessions is that it can be accessed from the comfort of your own environment at a time that is convenient to you.
What you need is a telephone OR a computer and an internet connection and an hour just for yourself.
The opportunity to access a counsellor by telephone or online can be useful for people who, for any reason, can’t easily travel to and from sessions, or who can't find a way to fit face-to face sessions in to their busy schedule.
Other people prefer to have access to a counsellor from the comfort and the privacy of their own environment.
My work is supervised in accordance with the BACP ethical framework for good practice, by supervisors who are themselves accountable to the same regulating body. They act as an extra layer of support and insight for the work we do together, and serve to support me in my commitment to providing a service that is safe, ethical, and effective.

Guided Focusing sessions (a Mindfulness-based approach) by Telephone and Online
There is a significant overlap between the practice of Focusing and the practice of Mindfulness – both being rooted in a reflective way of bringing one’s attention inside in a whole bodily felt way in order to attend to whatever is there.
Most of us tend to carry things around with us that can be subtly drawing us out of the present moment. We can find ourselves feeling distracted or caught in self-defeating patterns.
Stress is held in the body and can effect our everyday functioning. I'm always surprised how much stress we can hold in our bodies, sometimes without even realising it until we sit down to Focus and feel the relief that comes when we take the time to be with whats there.
If you are at home and you want something that will allow you to go deep, this is a great practice. All sessions are tailored to your moment-to moment experience as I walk you through the whole process. Some people like to bring a particular issue or problem with them to focus with, others like to simply trust what comes.

Focusing-Oriented Therapy by Telephone and Online
In Focusing-Oriented Therapy the therapist knows how to listen in a way that helps the client find his or her own bodily sensed response to their situation. When we take the time to listen to an issue we have with our whole body awareness something new can emerge and real change can occur. I use my contact with my own felt sense in our work together to help you to make sense of your life situation from this deeper place in yourself.

I have worked from the Tom Allen Centre, the renowned Counselling service in central Glasgow and for the NHS at The Homeopathic Hospital, Glasgow, where I continue as a remote counsellor, offering sessions by phone, and through my private practice with individuals for counselling, Focusing-Oriented Therapy, and Focusing (a Mindfulness-based therapy and practice).

Costs: There is no extra expense for working over the telephone as I cover that cost, calling at our pre-arranged time.
Do you offer reduced rates for Counselling and Focusing-oriented therapy or Focusing?
I do have a limited number of spaces with reduced rates for people on low incomes. Please don’t hesitate to inquire.

This will provide an opportunity for me to share with you a bit about the way I work and for us to discuss what you are seeking and what you are hoping to gain. It also gives you the opportunity to ask me any questions you may have and to get a sense of whether you would feel comfortable working with me and whether you feel comfortable with working over the phone.
If I feel that I am unable to help you or that therapy is not the most suitable type of support for you at this time I will make every effort to refer you to the appropriate support.
How does telephone/online counselling work?
It works very much like traditional face to face Counselling, providing a safe and confidential space in which issues that may be causing you concern or distress can be explored together.
We will arrange a time to meet on a weekly basis by phone and I will hold that space for you for the duration of the time we contract to work together. If you would prefer to meet more frequently, extra appointments can be arranged.
The same applies to the other services I offer of Focusing and Focusing-Oriented Therapy.
Some people need a more flexible arrangement - people who cannot commit to the same time each week -
this can usually be quite easily accommodated.
Will I have extra phone charges to pay?
No. There are no extra phone charges for this service. I make the calls at our pre-arranged time to whichever number is most convenient for you.
Many of my clients have a mobile or cell phone rather than a land line. This is not a problem for our work together. You will find it helpful if you are able to arrange to have a calm and private space where you will be uninterrupted for the duration of the session. A place where you can get comfortable and where you feel safe is ideal.
Can I be the one to call you for my sessions?
Certainly. If you would prefer to, we can set it up so that you call me to my number listed at the top of the page at the time we have pre-arranged.
In this case any extra phone charges you might incur would need to be covered by yourself.
