About me
If you are struggling with trauma, anxiety, depression or problems in your relationships, therapy can provide a safe place to feel heard and to get support in finding a way forward to a more fulfilling life. Perhaps you've experienced a loss or a change in circumstances that you are struggling to adjust to, or you keep getting stuck in the same conflicts again and again. I will start by providing a safe, open and non-judgemental space where you can share your experiences. Our first task in therapy is to come to a shared understanding of how you got here and where you want to go. Throughout the process I will share new perspectives which will help you start relating to each other in new ways that fit with your values. Sometimes it's not possible for all those involved to attend therapy, so I will always hold those important others in mind during your therapy.
I use a Systemically informed approach, particularly when working with couples and families. This means I will think about your difficulties in the context of your family and relationship history as well as how you respond to each other and why. I will also attend to your wider context, including thinking about any issues of identity, power and difference. Through understanding the patterns of how and why you relate the way you do, I will help you find new ways to relate to each other that honour your values and your unique strengths as well as your vulnerabilities.
I know that the most important aspect of any therapy is the relationship between the therapist and client. In the early stages of therapy, I will listen carefully to the problems you bring to therapy and work with you to build trust and a shared understanding of your difficulties.
