About me

I provide counselling and equine facilitated counselling. In both roles, I am dedicated to creating a safe environment to support you through your challenges. I support people struggling with a wide range of obstacles, including anxiety, depression and grief. I also see clients who come to counselling for a space to check in with themselves and maintain their mental health. Whatever you choose to bring to your sessions, I offer an empathic and consistent presence to accompany you through you counselling journey.

As a Humanistic Integrative Counsellor, I combine multiple approaches to counselling. This means I have the flexibility to work adaptively with what you bring to your counselling. However, the Person-Centred Approach underpins everything I do as it advocates a genuine, accepting environment. Other fundamental characteristics of my approach are creativity and a sense of humour. My creative style aims to work with how you are comfortable expressing yourself, which for some people might involve using drawing or metaphor.

In Equine Facilitated Counselling, I combine my counselling approach with techniques and skills learnt in my Equine Facilitated Learning (EFL) training. Equine facilitated learning is a horse-assisted approach to helping you achieve your personal growth and development goals. It uses a mixture of talking and practical exercises with horses. The talking side of EFL is very similar to counselling, although often more structured. Combining EFL and counselling allows me to help you process your experiences using EFL exercises and in the depth of a counselling setting. We can also take programs at a slower pace, spending sessions talking in the room and working in an open-ended manner where required.

I approach my work with the philosophy that each person is unique. I believe each of us has our own challenges in life, which are incomparable and equally valid. I see your needs as individual and recognise your story is unique. This also means I see each client I work with as a person rather than a presenting problem. This philosophy led me to train as an integrative counsellor which allows me the flexibility to draw on different theories and techniques to adapt my approach to meet your individual needs.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have experience counselling a wide variety of clients in both charities and private services. The services in which I have worked developed my experience delivering both time-limited and open-ended counselling.

Supporting the work I do is theoretical knowledge learnt during my BACP-accredited professional training. My training entailed three years of theoretical learning and two years of seeing clients in supervised clinical placements. I was taught both humanistic and psychodynamic approaches to counselling and learned how to combine these into a flexible, consistent, client-centred approach.

I also combine my level 4 diploma in equine facilitated learning with my counselling training in a face-to-face Equine Facilitated Counselling practice.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
