I am Louise Bannister, a qualified Cognitive Behavioural Therapist. My role is to help you understand the difficulties you are experiencing by working together with you to explore your thoughts, feelings and behaviours. We will then try out tools and techniques that you can use to help you work towards your own personal goals and make meaningful changes in your life. One of the main aims of cognitive behavioural therapy is to help you become your own therapist so that once our work together is complete, you feel more able to face your future with self confidence and a deeper level of understanding.
Please note that due to the current COVID restrictions, face to face appointments are not available. All sessions will therefore be carried out remotely via video call on Zoom. I have found this to be a brilliant platform for therapy, however if you have any questions about it, please don't hesitate to contact me and find out more.
Training, qualifications & experience
I am a fully qualified cognitive behavioural therapist with a SCOTACS Diploma in CBT Counselling and Groupwork from The Centre of Therapy and Counselling Studies in Glasgow. I am a member of the BACP and hold professional indemnity insurance.
I have 2 years experience of providing one-to-one cognitive-behavioural therapy and facilitating psychoeducational groups. I have experience in a number of different areas including depression, anxiety disorders and obsessive compulsive disorder. I also have a background in grief counselling.
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
