Lorraine Wood MBACP
I am a person-centred therapist & Clinical Supervisor and a registered member of BACP. I aim to provide a warm, safe and confidential environment in order to develop a trusting therapeutic relationship. Within this environment we can work together to help make sense of and understand whatever it is that you have been struggling with that has led you to counselling. Counselling is a process of change and can help you to move forward in your life and help you to gain a better understanding of yourself. Whatever your reason is for accessing therapy, I will work with you without judgement and at your own pace.
You may wish to explore or address old or unresolved issues in order to move forward with more clarity or you may be seeking support for a specific issue in your life, you may be experiencing impacts of these issues such as PTSD , anxiety or depression. Maybe you just feel different and feel like you don’t fit in or that you are misunderstood. Counselling can offer the space you need to explore the world from your own perspective and help you to feel that you are not alone and that you can make change to relieve these feelings.
I have many years’ experience working with issues such as Rape and Sexual abuse, anxiety depression, drug and alcohol addiction. British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
BACP is one of the UK’s largest professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy. Therapists registered with the Association fall into a number of different membership categories such as Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP and Registered Member MBACP (Accred), each standing for different levels of training and experience. MBACP (Accred) and MBACP (Snr Accred) members have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by the Association.
Registered members can be found on the BACP Register, which was the first register to achieve Accredited Voluntary Register status issued by the Professional Standards Authority. Individual Members will have completed an appropriate counselling and/or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but will not appear on the BACP Register until they've progressed to Registered Member MBACP status.
All members are bound by a Code of Ethics & Practice and a Complaints Procedure. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.

Sessions and what to expect
The first session provides us with an opportunity to meet and talk through and assess your needs and for you to decide if you will be comfortable working with me. Thereafter it is preferable that we meet on a weekly basis. Each session normally lasts for 50 minutes, I’m able to offer both short-term and long-term work.
I understand that taking the first step is not easy and I am happy to talk to you over the phone in the first instance to answer any questions or discuss any concerns you may have.
