About me

Are you feeling stuck, unhappy in life or unfulfilled? Do you need time and space to voice what's on your mind, the challenges you're facing or the emotional weight you're carrying?

Counselling can help you discover who you are, what you want and how to get there by offering a warm and empathic approach and offer a non-judgemental, safe and therapeutic space for whatever you choose to bring to counselling.

It is the process of exploring issues together rather than you being given advice. This may involve dealing with very painful memories from the past which can make a you feel worse at times, especially when exploring issues which may be traumatic. Therefore, counselling does not promise to make you feel better quickly.

My name is Lisa and I work with young people 12 years + and adults to help navigate life’s challenges.

I work with young people and adults to help them navigate life’s challenges, we all have moments when we need additional support. My experience is within the NHS as a youth counsellor. My aim is to provide you with a confidential space to explore in safety, to support you through the process without judgement and empower you to discover solutions in a therapeutic environment. I will offer honesty and respect.

If you haven’t reached out for counselling before, I understand the process can feel quite daunting, but I take care to adapt the process to you. Together we will learn about what works for you and decide on a way of working that will support you.

It is a big and unnerving step to contact a counsellor - not knowing what to expect, or how it will be. In our first session, we will “get to know each other” where you can talk about what you want to achieve in counselling and explore what you'd like to have help with as well as establish the therapeutic boundaries and visit a document called “our contract”. If you're happy we can then set up further sessions.

This first session is an opportunity to see if I am the right therapist for you and to get a feeling for how I work. I will ask you a number of questions to help decide if we would be comfortable working together and to make sure you are offered the appropriate support. I also welcome questions back.

Counselling provides a safe and confidential space for you to talk about your life, issues and concerns. I will help you explore your thoughts and feelings so you can develop a better understanding of yourself and of others. By developing this understanding of yourself, it is possible to move forward making meaningful changes.

I am trained in Person Centred therapy, which means I will try to understand from your perspective, I will walk alongside you and support you to find your own solutions, rather than be the professional that knows best. I will identify any re-occurring patterns that may not be in your awareness and explore these together. I believe that we all hold the tools we need, sometimes we need support to locate these tools to move forward.

I offer both short- and long-term counselling for adults and young people with a range of issues including anxiety, depression, self-esteem issues, a challenging time you need extra support with, trauma, stress, eating disorders and lack of purpose/loss of direction.

I believe this therapeutic relationship as fundamental to whether clients feel counselling is successful and I place a lot of emphasis on developing a strong, trusting, respectful relationship.

I am a registered member of the BACP and abide by their abiding by their Ethical Framework in practice

As well as my private practice I have many years experience working with young people and adults in various settings. I also have experience working in an NHS counselling service for young people.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
