About me
PLEASE NOTE: TEMPORARILY CLOSED TO NEW CLIENTS
I provide counselling and other services for survivors of traumatic events, people dealing with the symptoms of trauma every day, and other clients needing help with the stress of everyday life.
Working collaboratively with clients, I support them finding their solutions to moving forward, and to find relief from the symptoms of anxiety, low mood, shame, embarrassment, guilt, pain, nightmares and flashbacks, low self-esteem and what can feel like the repeated daily life of grind and being stuck. I support adults towards reaching their existing potential and being able to continue to grow their potential whilst overcoming challenges of everyday life and/or past trauma.
I offer adult survivors of sexual abuse and assault, and childhood abuse a safe place, either online or face to face, where collaborating with me, they can find their own solutions to moving forward from trauma. I aim to help all my clients feel that they matter and that they are believed by listening without judgement or prejudice and allow them to work at their own pace once they feel trust has been established between us.
- I have worked as a therapist since 2019 and bring my experience with clients and a broad range of skills from the following training:
- MBACP (Registered Member)
- MSc Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy,
- MSc Psychological Wellbeing and Mental Health,
- UK Solution Focused Practitioners (Accredited),
- Rewind practitioner and published researcher (for nightmares, flashbacks and phobias),
- Hypotherapy Practitioners Diploma
How I work
Bringing an integrative approach to sessions, I support you in your decisions on whatever you want to bring to therapy. An integrative approach also enables me to support you to focus on the here and now and the future. This focus may help you understand what is already helping you right now. When you are ready, and if you want to, we can then focus together on the past. This can help you to process whatever is holding you back and keeping you stuck. My integrative approach includes the use of skills and techniques from the following:
Solution Focused Approach – instilling the belief in you that there is a way forward.
Cognitive Behaviour Therapy – supporting you to find the link between your mood, thoughts, behaviours, biology (heart rate/feeling sick etc) and determining realistic achievable actions to find your way forward.
- Attachment Theory – helping you connect the past you to your current you.
- Person Centred – helping you back to the real you or even discovering the real you for the first time.
- Clinical and Medical Hypnosis which can help you with pain or finding moments of peace and calm in your everyday life can help you to clarity about what to do next.
- Muss rewind therapy - a short intervention specifically for flashbacks, nightmares, and phobias.
I bring my high levels of integrity, compassion and empathy to the sessions and enable you to decide if I am the right counsellor for you by working at your pace. Our therapeutic relationship is core to the sessions, and I am aware you need space and time to build trust and belief in the process and our ability to work together.
Free no obligation phone call
Before our first session together I offer a free no obligation 15 minutes telephone call which can help you decide if you want us to work together to achieve your goals including moving on from trauma and/ or having a calmer life.
The First Session
Our first session together will include contracting (briefly explaining my qualifications and the professional ethics I work to and how that helps to keep you safe, confidentiality and what we expect from each other re bookings and cancellations on both sides), reviewing how you are coping right now and how you are keeping psychologically and physically safe. Together we will reflect on your coping mechanisms and what you can start to do or do more of to help you with your emotional and mental wellbeing and mental health. Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
