About me and my therapy practice
Hello, I’m Liana. I am a Humanistic Counsellor and offer a warm and supportive environment where you can - in your own time - explore, understand and work through your issues. I offer short-term/long-term counselling and psychotherapy to adults with a wide range of issues. I work from my private practice in Walton-on-Thames and also online.
More often than not, people think they should be able to handle problems all by themselves, don’t want to burden others or don't want to appear like they can't cope; emotions are often pushed to the side because they can feeI overwhelming. Anxiety and depression, for example, are a sign that something important needs your time and attention. As a counsellor, my role is to foster an atmosphere where I can support you to gently stay with what is difficult; I can help you reflect and clarify the root of your issues so you are eventually able to manage and move through them.
I have a background in Art and ran my photography business for 15 years. I then decided to follow my instinct and dedicated five years of my life training as a psychotherapist. I found it to be a transformative experience and feel passionate about offering hope and support to individuals who would like to live a more satisfying life.
How to start
I understand a first point of contact can feel overwhelming so I don’t expect you to be clear about your feelings or what is troubling you (part of the work in counselling is to help you clarify your situation).
You can start with an initial email or a no-charge phone conversation. I usually ask the reasons why you decided to seek counselling and assess whether what I offer is supportive towards your hopes and needs. I will also ask you whether you have had any counselling before. After our conversation, you can decide, in your own time, whether you would like to try an initial session. In our first session, you will get a better idea of my style of working; you can then decide if you would like to carry on.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Training, qualifications & experience
I am a qualified Psychotherapeutic Counsellor ( L6 Diploma in Humanistic Psychotherapeutic Counselling from Metanoia Institute London).
I am also certified in : trauma, developmental trauma, diversity, suicide and self-harm.
Aside from my private practice, I also work in local charity organisations providing one-to-one counselling for individuals with issues of anxiety and depression.
I am a registered member of the BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy) and the Metanoia Institute and abide by their ethical code. I also attend regular supervision.
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred).
Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision.
Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training.
All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
Accredited Register Scheme
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
