About me
At some point in our lives, we might experience events which leave us feeling anxious, overwhelmed and pushed to our limits. Counselling can provide the help we need to work through this and move on in our lives.
I am interested in people and their stories. Through these, I notice how repeated patterns of behaviour are linked to the past experiences, often from childhood. These patterns are generally linked to the attachments we formed with the adults in our lives, underpinning our beliefs about ourselves and others.
I offer a welcoming and confidential space to explore a variety of issues, such as: anxiety, self-esteem, depression, relationship issues, and the problems that come up with life changes; marriage, divorce, bereavement, menopause and identify whether short or long term counselling is appropriate.
In the short term we can consider your strengths and develop helpful coping strategies, and through longer term we might recognise unhelpful feeling and thinking patterns learned and developed in childhood. I can help you to recognise and understand this and together we can find the opportunities for change.
In releasing the past, you can enjoy life and allow you to become your best self.
Training, qualifications & experience
My motivation to become a counsellor developed from my career in social care, mental health, and trauma informed services, working with vulnerable adolescents, adults and children. I wanted to understand the underlying trauma and how this impacts the person in their daily life.
I qualified in Counselling using Transactional Analysis in 2015, this is a modality that can be readily shared with you to enhance your awareness and deepen your understanding of issues, processes and self and to identify the changes that you want to make and to find your own solutions.
I work gently and intuitively to connect empathically with others to gain awareness and understanding of how the body and mind are inter-related, influencing our experience and responses.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
