About me

“We often find that the harder we try to get rid of emotions and thoughts, the stronger they become.”

Hi, I’m Lauren.

Thank you for taking the time to get to know about me. I look forward to doing the same for you.

As an experienced counsellor and psychotherapist, I consider it a great privilege to walk alongside my clients on their therapeutic journey where every client is unique and there is a new opportunity for learning and growth.

How I work:

When you say "a part of me feels this…. But another part of me feels that…” you have already embraced the idea of Internal Family Systems Therapy, which as an integrative psychotherapist I use amongst other therapeutic modalities such as CBT, Person Centred Therapy and Compassion Focused Therapy, to support you in your goals.

I recognise that people are made up of parts which serve to protect us from painful experiences. These parts might be anxiety, self-harm, low self-esteem, perfectionism, depression, and anger amongst many which are difficult to experience and maybe covering more painful emotions associated with traumatic experiences that feel harder to expose. All of these parts can take over and they can dominate our interactions with the world, preventing us from leading satisfying lives. You may feel other parts of you are lost, however, they are like the sun that is always they but is sometimes covered by cloud. Therapy can be the wind that helps to move the cloud to allow the sun to cast its light on our lives.

All people are capable of forging their own path, their own solution and their own way forward in their lives. My role is to provide the empathic, nurturing, and perhaps, creative space for you to explore and access safely the parts of you that prevent you from living compassionately, creating stress, tension, pain or perhaps a deep sense of unhappiness or loneliness.

Sometimes people come to counselling having experienced a significant trauma or loss which feels too big or too overwhelming to address. I believe that resolving these painful experiences doesn't have to involve revisiting them, but instead allowing your experience to be heard and validated.

I believe that the counselling relationship is key to the work that we do together. The relationship is a safe, non-judgemental, collaborative, co-created and compassionate space in which every part of you is welcome and accepted. All of your thoughts and emotions are welcome to be heard and supported in therapy.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
