About me

Hey, I'm Lauren. I'm a BACP-registered counsellor. My approach is integrative and grounded in a relational way of working, drawing on psychodynamic, person-centred, and cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT). I believe that the therapeutic relationship is at the heart of meaningful therapy. By building trust together, we can begin to explore not only what is happening for you now, but also how your life experiences may have shaped the ways you relate to yourself and to the world around you.

Reaching out for therapy can feel like a big step. You might already know what you want to talk about, or you may simply have a sense that something doesn't feel quite right. Whether you're feeling overwhelmed by what's happening in the present, carrying experiences from the past, or trying to make sense of thoughts and feelings that seem difficult to understand, therapy can offer a space to slow down and explore them with someone alongside you.

I work with adults and young people aged 16 and over, supporting people with a wide range of experiences including trauma, sexual violence, anxiety, depression, self-harm, suicidal thoughts, low self-esteem, bereavement, relationship difficulties and more.

I won't assume what you need or expect you to fit into one particular way of working. Instead, I aim to offer a space where you feel listened to and able to explore whatever feels important to you, at a pace that feels manageable.

I currently offer online counselling sessions, with face-to-face appointments potentially available on enquiry. Once you have sent an enquiry, I will email you to arrange an initial 15-minute telephone session, which I offer for free. This is an opportunity to see if we will work well together and for you to ask any questions. After this, if we feel we would work well together, we will find a regular appointment space that works mutually. Sessions are 50 minutes and cost £60.

Training, qualifications & experience

I have extensive experience working in specialist services supporting victim-survivors of crime, specifically sexual violence, domestic violence, and exploitation. These experiences have given me a deep appreciation of how overwhelming life can feel at times and of the importance of being met with compassion and warmth.

Alongside this, I have been working for many years within a mental health charity, supporting individuals in mental health crisis', struggling with suicidal ideation and self-harm.

I have a special interest in working with trauma, and the complex issues this comes with. I am committed to developing my skills through CPD and ongoing training.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
