About me

Hi and welcome!

If you're struggling just now I want you to know, you don't have to do it alone. Sometimes life can feel heavy and overwhelming and you can end up feeling like no one understands. Perhaps, you feel like you're too much, too loud, too strange, too awkward, too soft or not good enough. I've been there and therapy really helped me understand why I felt the way I did. It taught me to be less harsh on myself and more accepting, so much so, I became a therapist myself! Whatever you are going through, perhaps therapy can help you begin to feel like you again.

I'm Laura,  a qualified person centred counsellor and registered member of the BACP, based in North Tyneside. I offer in-person (from my therapy room in North Shields),.telephone and online counselling. I understand coming to counselling for the first time can feel like a big scary step into the unknown, so I aim to provide a warm, friendly, welcoming, non judgmental and confidential space. I am passionate about counselling, believing that you are the expert in your own life. I won't tell you what to do but I will listen with compassion, curiosity, and empathy, helping you feel heard and understood. I will work collaboratively with you, helping you to make sense of what it is you are experiencing and begin to understand yourself more deeply. Together we will explore what is happening and what you need.

I work with adults, young people and children who may be experiencing a range of difficulties including low mood, anxiety, stress, self esteem, relationship difficulties, life changes and feeling overwhelmed.

My approach is person centred, and creative. I want to provide a space where you feel comfortable being yourself and expressing yourself freely. I do not believe a one size fits all in counselling so I will tailor my approach to you as an individual. Together we can explore your thoughts, feelings and relationships at a pace that feels comfortable for you.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
