About me

Hi, I'm Laura, a qualified counsellor based in Medway, also working online and by phone.

What to expect when you start counselling with me

I'm a person-centred counsellor. This means you'll have a space where you are  valued and accepted for who you are. You'll be listened to without judgement and you'll be given the freedom to direct the sessions as you want to. This is a space where you won't be told what to do, but instead we'll work together to help you learn more about yourself and discover your own way forward.

First we'll have a free consultation call, where I'll ask you some questions to help me understand your reasons for seeking counselling. It'll also be a chance for you to ask me questions, to ensure I'm the right counsellor for you. If you decide to go ahead, we'll arrange your first session and agree how we will work together.

My experience and what I can help you with

I've outlined below some of my areas of experience, showing how we might be able to work together...

My experience includes working with people who have a sight impairment, people who are neurodivergent (mainly ADHD and/or Autism and some experience of Dyslexia) and people living with long term health conditions. You may be wanting to explore one or more of these things, or you may want to bring something else, but with someone who will be understanding of what your world is like and any particular needs you may have.

I also have personal experience of supporting someone through cancer, as well as working with patients in the NHS as an Oncology Counsellor. If you're supporting or caring for a family member or friend, we can explore your feelings about their situation, and also the impact it may be having on your life and your responsibilities. I understand how important it can be to have a space just for you.

I can also help with techniques to help manage anxiety, panic attacks and other emotional / physical symptoms you may be experiencing, especially when triggered by something. We can practice these together to help you feel regulated and grounded. This can be particularly helpful to do before exploring anything traumatic or distressing from your life.

If you find it hard to start talking about your feelings, we can look at some other ways to bring these out. This might include using something visual or doing some creative activities (you don't have to be 'creative' or 'artistic' for this and it's your choice if you want to use creative methods).

Options for sessions

I offer face to face counselling in Medway (ME8, Gillingham / Rainham) and virtual sessions by phone or video call. Sessions are 50 minutes long. I generally recommend weekly sessions, but can also accommodate fortnightly if that suits you better. We can either book a regular slot each week or book each session one at a time if you need more flexibility.
