About me

In my 17 years of experience as a therapist, I worked with clients struggling with lifestyle changes, bereavement, experiencing PTSD, current and past domestic violence and sexual abuse.

I use an integrative approach encompassing psychodynamic, person centred and relational psychotherapy in my clinical work. I apply psychoeducation when required, in order to help clients understand themselves better. For example, in bereavement work, the client may think that feeling low may be a sign of depression. However, I explain the stages of grief to highlight that feeling deep sadness for the loved one is a natural part of the bereavement process, while depression is where the cause of sadness is usually unknown. Clients often find this shift in perception a comforting first step in coming to terms with their grief.

I bring attachment theory and developmental stages into my therapeutic work. I look for the attachment style in my clients and if there were any relational traumas. I incorporate neuroscience into sessions, focusing on how trauma affects the brain and the nervous system; how trauma is transferred across generations and how to work with trauma. I have supported clients through complicated bereavement due to unresolved past and present traumas. I think of Polyvagal theory when working with trauma which helps me understand where the client is and guides me in taking the right steps in approaching the client and also in how to regulate the client during the sessions.

I hold a postgraduate diploma in Advanced Clinical Practice in Psychotherapy and Counselling from Middlesex University, in collaboration with The Minster Centre. I am also an ACTO Senior Professional Member (Level 3) and Senior Online Supervisor.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
