About me
I understand how difficult it can be to make the decision to come to counselling, I've been there. Then it's finding the 'right' counsellor for you just by looking at a photo and reading a profile, then there is contacting them and coming to your first session. It can be daunting.
Hiya, I'm Kirby. I am not just a counsellor. I am a real person and I have life issues to deal with, just like you. I also have my own life experiences and I feel that this helps me to be empathetic and understanding. I would consider myself to be down-to-earth and non-judgemental. I do not pretend to have all of the answers, that is not my job. My job is to help you to come to your own conclusions. Because of this I do not have any one way of working, We are all different and need different things. I instead listen to what you need and we work together to hopefully find solutions.
If you feel that we could work together please feel free to get in touch.
Training, qualifications & experience
I began my Counselling training journey in 2013. I then went on to complete a BSc (Hons) Undergraduate Degree at Teesside University. I am a BACP registered member. At the moment I work with individuals from primary school age up to older adults. The majority of my experience comes from working with anxiety but I have also worked with a multitude of other life issues. I did also work as a bereavement support volunteer. I would also consider myself to be a LGBTQ+ affirmative Counsellor, and this is something that I would like to expand my knowledge in.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
