About me
Hello! My name is Kimberley, and I am an integrative person-centred counsellor, which means that I draw on different therapeutic approaches (eg. CBT) to adapt sessions to the needs of my clients in a collaborative way. I believe that therapy works best when it is personalised and tailored to the individual, and facilitated by someone who is compassionate, down to earth, welcoming, and genuine.
While I can help with many different issues you may be facing such as depression and anxiety (please see below), I have a particular specialism in bereavement, trauma, and loss. I am confident in working with clients who are disabled, chronically ill, or neurodiverse (including ADHD and autism), and those who have complex and co-occurring conditions. As a disabled counsellor myself, I understand the importance of making my practice as accessible as possible, and can incorporate a high level of flexibility to accommodate fluctuating needs. Please feel free to discuss this with me! I'm also part of the LGBTQ+ community and provide a non-judgemental and accepting space.
Through experiences both as a counsellor and as a client, I've found that while therapy can feel daunting, it is also an incredibly powerful mechanism for change, self-acceptance, and healing. Often when we are in the midst of mental health difficulties, it can be hard to see ourselves as we really are. We may feel stuck, broken, ashamed, or unworthy. Counselling can help us develop self-compassion as we work through the problems we are facing and reconnect us with our true selves. This was certainly my own experience of counselling, and I hope to provide this for each of my clients in a way that's personal to them.
If you decide to work with me, I can offer an accessible, welcoming, compassionate, down to earth, and safe environment to work through the difficulties you are experiencing. If you feel like I could be a good fit for you, please get in touch for an informal chat.
Training, qualifications & experience
Areas I can help: I'm experienced in working with a variety of issues such as depression and anxiety, suicidal ideation and self-harm, trauma and shame, low self-esteem, high demand religious groups and religious PTSD, relationship and family issues, childhood sexual abuse, eating disorders, chronic illness and disability, addiction, neurodiversity, gender, and sexuality.
I specialise in bereavement, complicated grief, loss, and trauma. I volunteered for four years as a bereavement counsellor in a local hospice, providing counselling for patients and their families both pre- and post-bereavement. I am particularly experienced in working with people who are coping with the intersection of grief and trauma, and with those who have experienced loss during the pandemic.
My qualifications and experience: I have a Counselling FdSc degree at distinction grade, and a first-class Counselling BSc(hons) degree. When writing my BSc dissertation on the experience of grief during COVID-19, I fell in love with research, and have continued this passion through writing training workshops, research papers, and book chapters for other professionals.
Before my counselling journey I worked as a one-to-one SEND teaching assistant, and as an outreach support worker with disabled children and families. I have been in counselling practice since 2019.
My professional membership: I am a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and abide by their code of ethics. I undertake regular supervision and continuing professional development (CPD) to ensure that my practice remains relevant, up to date, and ethical.
Member organisations

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
