About me
As a Gestalt Psychotherapist and EMDR Practitioner I have a breadth of knowledge and experience to support you with the issues you are struggling with.
My areas of particular expertise and understanding are anxiety and stress, depression and low mood and feelings of low confidence and self worth. I have specialist training in trauma - whether this be a one of event or the impact of longer term and childhood trauma. Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a specialist therapeutic technique which helps us process and potentially overcome traumatic experiences.
I recognise it can be hard to make sense of all the Counselling and Psychotherapy options out there, and it’s really important to find the right person for you. For this reason, I suggest we arrange to speak on the telephone and then book as an assessment session - with no obligation to come again. This helps you decide whether we are a ‘good fit’ and gives us a chance to discuss what you’d like to get from the therapeutic experience.
I understand that we are facing difficult and unprecedented times. A pandemic of this type has taken away many of the structures and routines in our lives. We are having to live with uncertainty and this can cause understandable anxiety. I am able to explore this within the supportive context of a therapeutic relationship.
Training, qualifications & experience
I have a number of years experience in both private practice and in voluntary organisations. I am also a Primary Tutor in the Gestalt Department at Metanoia Institute. I have also worked in the field of mental health for twenty years.
These are my qualifications:
MSc in Humanistic 'Gestalt'-orientated psychotherapy from Metanoia Institute.
Foundation in Systemic Family Therapy from Northumbria University.
Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR) Levels 1-5
Diploma in Couples Counselling from AYA.
MA in S.W. from Bristol University.
As a therapist:
- My experience allows me to complete an in-depth assessment to identify which type of therapy would best suit you
- I have a range of knowledge and expertise which allows me to be flexible in the way I work.
- I have experience both working short term and longer term.
-I have a particular expertise in childhood abuse and neglect and how these can impact us in adulthood.
- I have in-depth knowledge and skill with Anxiety which includes: Generalised Anxiety Disorders, social anxiety and panic attacks.
-I work people who have experienced trauma and help them overcome the difficult symptoms they may be facing.
Member organisations
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
The UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP) is a leading professional body for the education, training and regulation of psychotherapists and psychotherapeutic counsellors. Its register is accredited by the government's Professional Standards Authority.
As part of its commitment to protect the public, it works to improve access to psychotherapy, to support and disseminate research, to improve standards and to respond effectively to complaints against its members.
UKCP standards cover the range of different psychotherapies. Registration is obtained by training or accrediting with one of its member organisations, or by holding a European Certificate in Psychotherapy. Accredited by the Professional Standards Authority.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
