About me
Counselling for Children, Young People and Families
Hello, my name is Kelly and I’m an Integrative Child and Adolescent Counsellor. I work from Yellow Door Therapies in Ashburton offering sessions for children, young people and families.
I am passionate about combining therapeutic approaches with creative activities such as art and music, to explore difficulties children and young people may be facing. This could be using art activities to express emotions that are difficult to put into words or exploring song lyrics that evoke powerful feelings. Sessions are an opportunity to create a safe, confidential and engaging space where children and young people feel confident to explore challenges in a way that suits their needs.
I draw on extensive professional experience of working with children, young people and families in a variety of counselling and leadership roles. With over 18 years’ experience within Charity, Local Authority and Higher Education sectors, my career has been shaped by empowering young people and families to achieve their potential regardless of their circumstances.
Getting in touch:
I appreciate that finding the right therapist is crucial, therefore I offer a complimentary 30 – minute consultation, either face to face or on the phone. This allows us both to ensure that I am the right fit for you and your family. Please don’t hesitate to contact me via phone or email to discuss how I work or any questions you may have.
Training, qualifications & experience
I completed my counselling training at Terapia (Middlesex University) and hold a Post-Graduate Diploma in Child and Adolescent Counselling.
I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (MBACP 415884).
My experience includes working within primary and secondary schools as a counsellor, working in specialist family support services and as a therapeutic practitioner for young parents. I have held several leadership roles including within Youth Justice and Exploitation Services, Children’s Charities and University Counselling and Mental Health Services.
Member organisations
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
