About me
Hi, I’m Kelly and my passion is helping people reduce their worry and overthinking using strategies that really work, so that they can enjoy life again and reach their potential. Have a look at my profile to see how I can help you reach your goals. I am BABCP accredited and also a member of the British Psychological Society (GMBPsS)
I often work with issues such as Depression, Stress, Burnout, Generalised Anxiety, OCD, Phobias, Social Anxiety, Health Anxiety and Imposter Syndrome. I have recently began a Master’s degree in Coaching Psychology, one of the first of its kind in the UK and a very exciting and innovative course, so I can now also offer Coaching services at a reduced rate whilst I am in training. I am also really influenced by Compassion Focused Therapy and Positive Psychology and try to incorporate all these influences into my work.
It is really important to find a therapist you feel comfortable working with, so let me tell you a bit about what I do;
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT):
This is an evidence-based therapy which provides a way for individuals to explore their beliefs, thoughts, feelings and behaviours and how these can interact to maintain our difficulties. CBT can help people to identify these unhelpful aspects and look at how we can see things more realistically and create change. CBT is the accepted treatment for many anxiety and mood disorders and leaves individuals with effective strategies to use moving forward. I also use Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) which is really effective with issues around phobias, avoidance, OCD rituals and similar presentations.
Metacognitive Therapy (MCT):
This is a new, cutting edge ‘Third Wave’ therapy which emerged from the foundations of CBT in the early 2000’s. It was developed by Professor Adrian Wells and I trained with him personally and qualified in 2020. MCT has similarities with CBT but differs in that it focuses more on our responses to thoughts rather than challenging their content. This means that it is effective with unhelpful behaviours such as worry, rumination and avoidance. MCT has already been adopted by NICE as a therapy for Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD) but is rarely offered due to the lack of qualified therapists, so I am really happy to be able to provide this innovative therapy.
Coaching:
I did some training in Life Coaching many years ago but only this year began my Masters in Coaching Psychology. Coaching is not therapy but has its roots in psychological theory and uses CBT and Positive Psychology approaches. Coaching provides a framework for individuals to explore ways in which they can enhance particular areas of their lives, such as personal life or career. Coaching is a dynamic and flourishing support and provides opportunities for positive and collaborative working.
Deciding to look for therapy is a big step, and it takes a lot of courage to ask for help. It can be very overwhelming to try to manage things alone. Talking things through in therapy can help to clarify what needs to change and enable you to move forward in a positive and achievable way. I try to provide a safe, empathic, non-judgemental and supportive space so you feel able to explore your difficulties and we can work together to find strategies which will really help. I am really passionate about what I do, and my aim is to make sure you feel listened to and empowered. If you want to ask me any questions we can arrange a free consultation to find out if I am the right therapist for you and think about what support you might need. I’m always happy to have a chat and if we are not a good fit to signpost you to other services if I can. Thank you for reading my profile.
