About me

Hello, I'm Katy. You are taking a brave step into self-development, and I hope that you feel confident enough to get in touch so we can organise a free initial call, so we can get a feel for whether we would be able to collaborate. It doesn't mean that you are committed to working with me. It's an important first step to engage in before we book a first session.

Whatever you feel you want to explore, regardless if it feels simple compared to 'what other people' are going through or more complex, we will find a way of working together to help you to explore your emotions.

For the last sixteen years, I have worked with many individuals seeking support to improve their well-being. I can work in the traditional counselling sense of face-to-face talking, or we can find alternative ways of working through issues using the space, creative resources, and movement.

I will provide you with a space to talk and time to attend to your feelings.

I offer individual, couples, and family face-to-face counselling/psychotherapy sessions. I can also work briefly in a focused way over a small number of sessions or longer term.

Training, qualifications & experience

  • MA (ACP) in Counselling and Psychotherapy
  • Certificate in Supervision
  • BSc (Hons)  in Integrative Counselling
  • Advanced Diploma in Integrative Counselling.
  • Diploma in Integrative Counselling

My background is working therapeutically with children, young people, and families in a wide range of settings. I have been part of lives in different professional roles supporting adults and young people with the aftermath of difficult situations.

I have worked extensively in private homes, within educational roles, the NHS, and other therapeutic institutional environments, which has brought me into contact with a diverse range of people experiencing distress from the first few hours of a birth to the last quiet breaths of a living death.

I have over thirty years experience supporting individuals with a range of mental health issues, normally different brains, and in recent years I've managed a third sector counselling service.

I lead with a compassionate, body-focused approach.

My academic areas of interest include chronic illness/pain and its effects on the body and mind. Different brains and it's impact on the person's abilities and perceptions. Creativity: What it adds to the therapeutic relationship.

Registered / Accredited

Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
