About me

Hello and welcome to my page. I’m so glad you have landed here, and well done for taking the first step towards making meaningful change in your life. It can be really hard to name when things feel difficult, and even harder to reach out to talk to someone about this. Even just clicking on this website and beginning to explore people’s pages shows a recognition of a different way you would like to live, and I would love to support you on that journey.

My name is Dr Katie Overbury. I am a somatically led Clinical Psychologist, EMDR Europe Accredited Practitioner and Somatic Facilitator, and I specialise in trauma-focused work, covering both PTSD and complex trauma.

I work with people who are living with the ongoing impact of trauma or overwhelming experiences. This may include single incident trauma, birth trauma, medical trauma, accidents, assault, relational trauma, workplace trauma, or a small cluster of linked experiences that continue to feel active in the body and nervous system.

In your present day, this may present as PTSD symptoms, flashbacks, nightmares, avoidance, shame, dissociation, or feeling as though your body is still responding as if the trauma is happening now. I work with PTSD using EMDR therapy, nervous system regulation and trauma-focused psychological therapy, supporting you to process what has happened in a way that feels safe, contained and appropriate for you.

I also work with complex stress and trauma, which may present as relational difficulties, challenges with regulating moods, low self-worth or belief in yourself, chronic pain, tension, emotional overwhelm, protective patterns, or feeling disconnected from your body, yourself and the world around you.

My therapy combines a mixture of talking, EMDR therapy, somatic body-based practices, nervous system regulation, parts work and breathwork. I provide my clients with a safe and restorative space to explore the current challenges they are facing in life, supporting meaningful recognition and change in both body and mind.

Alongside longer term trauma-focused therapy, I also offer Intensive EMDR for clients wanting a more focused way to process specific traumatic experiences. This can be particularly supportive for people who are looking to work on a recent trauma, a single incident, or a small cluster of linked memories in a more contained and targeted way.

I believe it is important that the therapeutic path taken is appropriate for each individual and their current challenges at the point of meeting me in therapy, and remains flexible throughout the time we work together.

As a Clinical Psychologist, I am trained to work with great variation in people’s life challenges and their surrounding contexts, and my work is informed by a variety of evidence-based models to meet these needs.

However, my main modalities are:

EMDR Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing therapy

Somatically Focused Parts Work IFS

Trauma-informed Breathwork

Within all my work as a Psychologist, somatic practices with both breath and body are used to connect the mind and body’s story. An understanding of the nervous system is also threaded throughout to build a foundational understanding of how our lives and the environments we live in are deeply affecting our bodies, functioning, and how we feel able to engage in the world around us in response to this.

I currently work online with clients across the UK, with limited in-person availability in the Liverpool area.
