About me

Hi, I'm Katia, I am a fully qualified and experienced psychodynamic psychotherapist who works with both couples and individuals.

I truly believe in the importance of having a healthy relationship.

My approach is psychodynamic and aims to bring the unconscious mind into consciousness, making you aware of patterns in your feelings and behaviour and providing insight into your current self.

I aim to help people from all backgrounds, walks of life and all sexual orientations to express their concerns and emotions without feeling judged. Every difficulty is respected and valued for the insight it provides into more profound issues.

So please email me if you would like to arrange a brief (usually 15 - 20 minutes long) phone consultation free of charge for us to discuss your situation and answer any questions you might have.

Training, qualifications & experience

I trained at Tavistock Relationships which, since its foundation in 1948, has been a leading internationally recognised institution for couple counselling and psychotherapy. I continue to work at Tavistock Relationships in London as a visiting clinician seeing clients for assessments and ongoing therapy.

I am also an associate at The Practice, an award winning counselling service in East Molesey, Surrey, alongside my private practice. I have further developed my specialism in Mentalisation-Based Treatment for Couple Therapy known as MBT-CT.  This is a form of psychotherapy for those who find their arguments can get very stormy leaving both partners feeling drained and withdrawing from the relationship in sometimes cold and rejective ways. In addition, I am a visiting speaker at St. Mary's University in Twickenham, Middlesex.

I have an MA in Couples and Individual psychodynamic counselling and psychotherapy and a BSc (Hons) in Psychology. I am a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and I adhere to their professional code and ethical guidelines. I also hold a full clear DBS.

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy
Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
