About me
Are you feeling overwhelmed and alone in your feelings? Working through some challenging life events? Or maybe you have been feeling stuck, low, or experiencing anxiety without being able to understand why. As a qualified integrative therapist, I aim to provide that safe, non-judgemental space for you to share, unburden and work through feelings and experiences you would like support with.
The values at the heart of my therapy practice are empathy, non-judgement and congruence (being genuine). When you come to therapy it can feel like a huge step, and one that can often be filled with apprehension, anxiety and maybe even fear. By placing these values at the centre of what I do, I aim to build a therapeutic relationship with you where you feel safe enough to explore anything and everything that you need to, in a way that puts you as the client at core of the process.
Training, qualifications & experience
Through my company, Talking Therapy North Ltd, I offer a BACP-registered, integrative counselling service. This runs alongside our HCPC-regulated clinical psychology provision which offers therapy for more complex and long-standing mental health issues.
I have experience working with a wide range of mental health issues including anxiety, self-esteem, trauma, domestic abuse and violence, parenthood, post-natal mental health and later-life transitions. Whatever the reason you come to therapy, with me you will find an empathic and reflective listener, a safe space to share parts of you that feel vulnerable or that have been hidden for a long time, and an understanding and respect for what you bring as a client.
I work from a core model of person-centred counselling, but I am also trained in Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy (EFIT). This has its foundations in attachment theory and places great value on the need for secure emotional connections within and between individuals. Using this approach, EFIT aims to transform core emotional experiences, moving clients from emotional experiences that can feel alien, frightening and unacceptable, to a place where they can self-regulate, find acceptance, and start to form new ways of being with themselves and others.
I have a background in teaching and so I understand the unique stresses and experiences of people working in the education sector, and I have also worked as an infant feeding supporter which allowed me to spend time with parents who needed support with infant feeding and the feelings surrounding becoming a parent. In all my roles, building relationships, offering warm and empathic support and empowering others are key to creating space for someone to grow and heal.
If you feel like I can offer what you are looking for then please don’t hesitate to reach out; I offer a free 15-minute telephone consultation for us to find out more about each other.

Member organisations

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Further information
Once we arrange to meet, our first session is a chance for us to get to know each other and to see whether you feel like I can offer what you are looking for. In the first session, we will complete an assessment that will explore your current needs, what led up to you seeking out a counselling relationship, details of support you have had before and an assessment of risk and protective factors in your life. We will finish by exploring what you hope to be different at the end of counselling.
Going forwards, our time will be led by you and what you wish to bring and explore each session in line with the person-centred approach.
