About me

Hello and welcome. My name is Kath, and I am a qualified, trauma-informed, person-centred counsellor.

Life can sometimes leave us feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or unsure how to move forward. Counselling offers a safe, confidential, and non-judgemental space where you can explore your thoughts and feelings at your own pace.

Taking the first step can feel daunting, but you don't have to face things alone. If you're ready to begin, I'd be honoured to support you on your journey.

As a person-centred counsellor, I believe you are the expert in your own life. My role is to provide a supportive, compassionate relationship where you feel heard, accepted, and empowered to find your own way forward.

I have recently completed my level 5 qualification in Somatic Resilience, which has enhanced my ability to support clients in understanding the connection between trauma, the nervous system, and the body.  Somatic Resilience begins with creating a safe and supportive environment where you can gently explore your nervous system, become more aware of your own body's sensations, and understand what those experiences may be communicating. Together, we can identify and strengthen your own inner resources, supporting nervous system regulation, building resilience, and promoting healing at a pace that feels right for you.

By combining somatic resilience with my person-centred approach, I offer a holistic way of working that recognises healing involves both the mind and the body. Through compassion, curiosity, and collaboration, I aim to help you develop greater emotional awareness, resilience, and a stronger sense of safety and wellbeing.

For more than twenty years, I have worked within mental health charities, including MIND, Place2Be, Eye2Eye, and Gofal, supporting adults, young people, and children experiencing a wide range of emotional and mental health difficulties. Before qualifying as a counsellor, I helped people build resilience through practical coping strategies, supporting them to manage the challenges of everyday life.

I have experience supporting clients with:

Stress and anxiety
Depression
Trauma
Loss and bereavement
Family and relationship difficulties
Confidence and self-esteem
Parenting challenges
Emotional wellbeing
Life transitions and other personal challenges
I have also worked extensively with families, offering parenting support to help children and young people recover from adverse experiences and build emotional resilience.

Whether you choose face-to-face, online, or telephone counselling, I will provide a warm, compassionate, and confidential space where you can feel genuinely heard and understood. Together, we can explore what may be holding you back, recognise your strengths, and work towards meaningful and lasting change.

One client described their experience by saying:

"I feel like a brick has been lifted from my stomach – so much lighter."

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.

I feel that when seeking a suitable therapist starts with the relationship which starts with an initial consultation session, to give you the opportunity to see how you feel about us working together. After this, it will be your decision whether you would like to move forward with sessions.

I can offer you a free 15-minute enquiry call to answer any questions that you may have about counselling.

Following that, each session is for 50 minutes, and I have the flexibility to offer day or evening sessions, I am able to offer short- or long-term counselling, this can be your choice and we can review this together.
