About me

Hi, I'm Kate and I am an experienced counsellor of many years, working to support adults and young people towards healthier, more balanced lives.

Counselling can offer you the time and space to reflect on what you would like to be different in your life. Together, we can explore your goals at a pace that feels right for you.

These might include:

  • Gaining a better understanding of yourself and your experiences.
  • Improving emotional wellbeing and resilience.
  • Developing healthier ways of coping.

If you're feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or struggling in your relationships or day-to-day life, you are not alone.

I offer:

  •  An Integrative counselling approach to support your wellbeing, relationships, and personal growth.  This means I tailor therapy to suit you as an individual.  Approaches I use can include CBT, person centred, or solutions focused.  I work alongside clients not only to understand their difficulties, but also to support movement towards a healthier lifestyle, improved relationships, personal growth and development.
  • As a former Public Health Nurse with many years of experience working within the NHS, I have supported families, parents/carers, children and young people across a wide range of physical and mental challenges.  This has given me a strong understanding of the connection between emotional wellbeing and physical health.
  • A safe, confidential space for adults and young people to explore their thoughts and feelings without judgement.
  • Experience in parenting support and the challenges that young people and children can bring.
  • Tailor made support for parents/carers with  issues and concerns around challenging behaviours and worries
  • An environment to explore working towards healthy lifestyle choices

Some of the things I can help with include:

  • Anxiety and stress
  • Low mood or depression
  • Relationship difficulties
  • Family and parenting challenges
  • Young people’s emotional wellbeing
  • Life changes and transitions
  • Feeling overwhelmed or “stuck”
  • Building confidence and self-esteem

What you can expect:

  • A safe, confidential and non-judgemental space
  • A warm, supportive and respectful approach
  • Time and space to talk openly at your own pace
  • Therapy tailored to your individual needs
  • An opportunity to explore your thoughts and feelings more deeply
  • Support in making sense of difficulties and challenges
  • A focus on both understanding and moving towards positive change
  • I aim to provide an environment where you feel listened to, valued, and supported throughout your counselling journey.

I have qualified as a Registered General Nurse, a Registered Mental Nurse. I hold a Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling, a Level 5 certificate in Counselling Children and Young People, a Diploma in Health Promotion, a BSC (Hons) first class (Community Nursing Specialist Practice).

Training, qualifications & experience

I trained as a Registered Physical and Mental Health Nurse and have many years of experience working within the NHS. I recoginsed that emotional health and wellbeing play a huge role in our holistic health which led me to train as a counsellor over 10 years ago. I have a diploma in therapeutic counselling and completed a post graduate diploma in working with children and young people. I am registed with the BACP, a governing body for therapists and counsellors. Currently I offer therapy to adults and young people, building on my many years experience in public health to provide thoughtful, compassionate counselling support.

I hold a current DBS certificate

Member organisations

BACP
British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP)

BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
