About me
Are you finding yourself struggling with things and situations that used to be easy for you?
Or have you reached a point where things just need to change, and starting with yourself sounds like a good idea?
What to expect from our sessions
I offer an empathetic, non-judgmental, caring environment in which to explore life's problems and find a way to move forward in life.
It is such an honour to be allowed into people’s worlds and be there for the realisations – sometimes good, sometimes not so good – about themselves, their upbringing, their experiences, and see lasting change happen – gradually – so they can continue a happier, healthier life, with a more robust approach to challenges and whatever else life might bring.
Together in the counselling room we can find a way to gain insights about your current distress and deal with it in a patient and timely fashion, taking our time to understand what has brought you here now.
I am actively attending continuous professional development and training days/courses to increase my skills in the counselling room, with the aim of having more tools in my toolkit to support my clients with what they bring to the room.
Please check out my blog posts on What to expect from your first session for further insights into what you can expect when starting your counselling journey with me. (www.karinbrauneronline.co.uk/blog)
My approach
My approach is psychodynamic at its base, but I adapt my therapeutic approach with each individual client, drawing from previous knowledge in cognitive, gestalt, person centred, and existential theories, as well as drawing from my experience of working with different cultures and different groups, including Aspergers, autism, adults and older mental health clients.
I believe building good rapport and a good relationship with my clients will help both of us work together to gain insights and freedom from feelings that might be stuck in the past or left unprocessed or repressed.
Neurodivergence
I have more than 20 years experience working with neurodivergent clients in a variety of settings, including support work, body doubling, counselling and supervision.
Together, we will find the right pace for you and as we get to know each other, I’ll have a greater perspective of the key areas we might need to focus on to create habits that help you in every area of your life, including your working and personal relationships.
I also run the Facebook group Counsellors Working with Neurodivergence, which is aimed to support counsellors work with their neurodivergent clients and work as neurodivergent counsellors.
You can read some of my blogs on this topic via my website (https://karinbrauneronline.co.uk/autism/).
Christian Counselling / Spirituality / Religious Beliefs
I am a born-again Christian. This means my worldview is guided by the teaching of the Holy Bible. I won't bring this up unless you find it important for your therapeutic process. As with everything, I am guided by you and what you need from me in our therapeutic relationship.
I am respectful of other beliefs and will strive to understand your situation from your spiritual and cultural perspective, which might mean I ask more questions as I don't want to assume or misread anything you bring and how it might be impacting, helping or hindering, your current situation.
Are you a practitioner in private practice looking for a supervisor?
Finding the right supervisor for you is just as important as a client finding the right therapist for them. Supervision should be a safe space to work through as much or as little as comes up for you in your counselling work, but also to provide support to work through life and work stuff that might get in the way of supporting your clients in the best way possible. Do have a look at my supervisor profile and check out my free resources. Get in touch when you're ready!

Member organisations
school Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
BACP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for counselling and psychotherapy with around 60,000 members. The Association has several different categories of membership, including Student Member, Individual Member, Registered Member MBACP, Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Accred) and Senior Registered Accredited Member MBACP (Snr Acccred). Registered and accredited members are listed on the BACP Register, which shows that they have demonstrated BACP’s recommended standards for training, proficiency and ethical practice. The BACP Register was the first register of psychological therapists to be accredited by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA). Accredited and senior accredited membership are voluntary categories for members who choose to undertake a rigorous application and assessment process to demonstrate additional standards around practice, training and supervision. Individual members will have completed an appropriate counselling or psychotherapy course and started to practise, but they won’t appear on the BACP Register until they've demonstrated that they meet the standards for registration. Student members are still in the process of completing their training. All members are bound by the BACP Ethical Framework and a Professional Conduct Procedure.
Accredited register membership
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.
